Chapter One - What's Left Behind
One would have expected private museum build by a rich guy to have at least some taste, some individuality. Even if it was bad taste - say pink paint and yellow butterflies added on -it should still be something. But this bleak grey box with horizontal, rail-like windows going around in intervals seemed like nothing so much as a redoubt from a nightmare war, something to be hopefully going to be torn down again at the first opportunity. There was only one door, led up to by 7 very flat and somewhat weirdly shaped steps, although it was hard to tell what was so strange about them other than their flatness. The small yard in front of the building had only a small place to park about 5 or maybe 6 cars if you were good at parking smaller cars. Right now, an enormous Benz - a custom model? - in purple with curtains occupied half the space. It had diplomatic number plates. Somehow, looking directly at it seems unpleasant,it is as if the mind wants to be not bothered by it and the eyes go elsewhere almost immediately.
This place,so the letter said, was where you were supposed to come 9.17 (not 9.15, oh no... what was up with that instruction?) on Friday morning, the 9th of May 2021. This was a weird start already.
As you arrived, a chubby red-haired girl of about 16 years was already standing in front of the doors, still dressed in her school uniform. She alternated looking at the sky for any sign of rain on this not too cold day and checking her watch. She was frowning, probably about the weird time of the appointment. Then she obviously heard steps behind her, because she turned around and nodded with a minimal smile. She seemed now very businesslike, almost like a mini version of a school principal in her uniform. "Hello," she said in a voice matching the first impression. "Are you also related to Thomas Dennis Wyrman? I did not even know of the man's existence and the ceasing of such until last week when the letter arrived. My mum thinks it is a hoax, but then, it is in the same city and we can use the money so she said I should check it out. Oh how rude of me." The girl actually curtsied. "I am Andrea Walkers. It is a boring name but it is what it is."
