11b - His Bloody Project

Village Lockup, ~9:30pm Sunday May 5th, 1771

Tom and Andrew pass by Mr. Criddle, his light and his company like shadows among shadows, giving vague nods and hat-tips of respect and walking onward, leaving the light behind them. The hares haunting the churchyard and lane let them go between their chosen posts, neither approaching nor fleeing, only keeping watch.

Passing through the village at this hour with no-one heading homeward from the inn is quiet and dark, only the odd flutter of light through closed shutters showing that other lives continue in Scorch Norton's bounds. Doubtless a handful of wives, the old and the infirm await the return of local inn-goers, unaware of the alarming incursion or the attack on the nobility that preceeded it. Doubtless too, that infants and children sleep, not knowing the thing with a changing face - though now a name, by the Vicar's reckoning, this Edmond Fox - had killed a woman that they knew. Their steps sound loud on the packed earth.

[[Optional Spot Hidden here, but mostly pausing in case there's anything you two'd like to tell each other, given some private moments to do so...
edit: tense fix, what is wrong with me.]]

Thomas gave the surrounding buildings a scan before they set off proper to look for the boy. he was in a mind to go and give the Inn a look over since it is the last place he remembers seeing the lad. "Should we see if he is in the Inn ?" he asked Andrew.

Thomas Bees rolled 43 using 1d100.  Spot Hidden = 45%.

There is little to see in the immediate tangle of houses, garden fruit bushes and alleys, though the night shadows are deep. The stars observe them overhead without comment.

”I have a suspicion he might have wished to speak to Jim Stone, if he was able,” Andrew offered, ”Perhaps we could visit the cell first. Learn if he’s been there.”
