I've started adding players, not turning off RTJs just yet.

I'm thinking about a small city of about 50,000 inhabitants (Arkham-sized) in the 1980s. It will have a university a couple of newspapers and radio stations and television stations. It's becoming clear to me, so pitch any ideas soon.

Thanks to the Keeper for having let me in through the Gate!
Hello to my fellow players!

re. your choices:
In the U.S.A.?
More east coast?

I would vote for it being a coastal city.
And, maybe a city in decline? 50,000 people but it used to be more. Still a university, but a major industry in recession or closed down?

I like the failed industry idea. That could be the basis a fair few plot points, I'm sure. If it's coastal, it could be a failed coastal tourism spot or fishing town?

Sounds good.

Is it a fictional town, or a real one?

It can be a fictional one with elements borrowed from a real one.

In such a small town with an university, I suspect that a fair percentage of the jobs will be related to the university: not only teaching, but also accommodation, entertainment, ground keeping, libraries, maintenance...

I guess it could be on the East Coast, New England region?

Also, hi!

There could also be an Old Money wealthy family who probably owns significant estates. Maybe more than one and they secretly fight over control of the town or there's a feud between them that lasts for generations?

It could also be a failed transport hub, previously a regional center for international shipping.

Lots of nice ideas!
I like pretty much all that is said, and it all seems to work together too.

In reply to Player Y (msg # 8):

I suggested a college town rather than a university town. Here in the US, a college offers only undergraduate degrees (associate's and bachelor's), while universities also offer graduate degrees (master's and doctoral).

Maybe there could be a state prison near the town, more than a century old that's still in operation? Where inmates seem to go missing or wind up dead every once in a while.
