Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

"No need cap'n- got one right here", he said as he let his sword rest on the ground for a moment and detached a rope with a small grappling hook from his bag. He threw it up at the happy little goblin, hoping the grappling hook would make it easier to be grasped and tied around one of the posts.

"Didja get it, littl'un?", he yelled towards the top as the grappling hook thunked on the wooden floorboards.

OOC: I don't know what I need to roll, so here's a d6 (Athletics or Strength), a d8 (Agility) and a d6 (Wild Die).
12:59, Today: Olyx Mintarios rolled 5,7,2 using 1d6,1d8,1d6, rerolling max ((5,7,2)).
So it's either a 5 or 7, depending on what's appropriate.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Damn, they have remained inside” Lirian thought, seeing no one has followed her out the house. Then she heard Quentin about the shadows.

Neither my specialty she answered him. “If they are summoned beings, Piper could better answer, and if they are illusions I don’t know…

OOC: I guess knowing about magic not in own specialty would be an occult roll…
14:13, Today: Secret Roll: Lirian rolled 0,0 using d4-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2.  Occult (knowing about the shadows). – 0,0

Whatever they are, be ready to fight them if needed” she said, reading her quarterstaff and closing to Quentin, just in case.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Quentin stands outside with Lirian looking over the landscape, he finds A small area where there is a garden feature that looks like an old gazebo that has since been rotted away but still has some wood left. Lirian and Quentin search for anything that their memories tell them about these shadows but nothing comes to mind. As they creep closer Lirian sees the reality of being stuck between a sinking house and the shadows themselves eating everything insight that is a light source. Quentin guesses that the house has roughly a minute or two (2 turns first floor covered, 4 turns second floor covered) before it fully sinks into the ground and is gone forever but strange enough the structure itself seems to remain intact, no cracks or pieces of the house are falling off which he thinks is strange.

Meanwhile inside Olyx and Aeress are throwing the rope to Jenkins. She grabs the rope and is able to tie it to the top of the banister that allows you to climb up.

While this is going on Aeress hears the voice again in her ear, "Iron, metal, fire, and stone. All things that can break your....."

A huge crackling of metal can be hear in the direction facing the kitchen. In the darkness you can make out that a suit of armor once standing dusty and proud in the entry to the hall, now moving. One foot breaks it's location as the suit of armor seemingly comes to life.

Upstairs Piper is able to bounce around the creature and get behind it to the other side while the beast fights with Pipers summons. Before she opens the next door she looks back to see that the beast is taking swipes at the summons and not worried about Piper at all.

As Piper open the next door she finds that the room is filled with rather a lot of sheets. Looking inside before stepping inside she sees a number of things that are covered from head to toe in white sheets but in the middle of the room is a circular item which sits on a square column of some sort. The shapes of several things stand out as furniture where the object in the middle of the room stands out as some specifically placed there.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Quntin takes a vial off his bandolier and puts some theories to test. He is not sure whether the shadows or the gazebo will burn, but he gulps the potion and breathes out a cone of fire to get the definitive answer.

One burst at the gazebo, also targering any shadows on the way.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Piper's dusty servant floated down and over the rickety stairs and handed off a strange looking brooch to Aeress who was near the bottom of them.

It then turned and headed back up at speed.

Piper's wolves continued to fight and distract the shadow beast.

Piper meanwhile, took in the contents of the strange room mostly full of items covered to protect them from non-use except the one odd thing apparently still in use or important enough to not need such protections.  She then pointed Mosii towards the other door where the feline batted it open via a heavy paw upon the handle so the pair could see what potential bits of interest remain shut up in this strange house.

Aeress secured the broach, then closed in on the threat.  Her weapon had reach, she might be able to reinforce the attack the summoned creatures were already commencing.

"This is chaos."  It was more of an observation than a complaint.

Olyx sheathes his sword and starts climbing as fast as possible, used to the rigging and the ropes. He goes up, up, up, and quickly reaches the banister, drawing his sword again once his feet are on secure footing. He tries to join the fray without making it harder for Aeress, preferring to cover her and her big pointy stick for now, until an opening presents itself.

Hunter grabs hold of the ropes and walks up the wall. He puiled his rapier and holding rapier and buckler out for defence, squeezed down the side of the hallway. Jenkins, following closely behind, used Hunter as cover to pop into the last unopened doorway.

Hunter is primarily trying to get into a flanking position and defending Jenkins getting into the room.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Quentin watches as the house sinks a little more into the ground before he launches fire at the Gazebo. The shadows seem to scream in pain and anger as light floods the area with tons brilliance and then is quickly engulfed in darkness. Quentin notices that the shadows seem to now be split feeding on the light left by the flames of the gazebo slowly killing the flames themselves even in seconds.

Lirian gets quick look inside and see Kai on the bottom floor with an iron suit of armor moving in his direction. It slowly stumbles towards him with it's huge iron gantlets ready for a fight.

On the second floor Piper opens the last door trying to see if she can see anything out of place. The last room is a regular old bathroom that seems out of place for the house but there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary in that room. She wonders if something is missing or out of place but she just hasn't seen it yet.

The black creature bites into one of Pipers summons necks dissolving it from the magic of where it came. As Pipers other summon slashes at the beast the attacks seem to just pass through as if it's smoke.

As everyone reaches the second floor the creature is blocking the path to the end of the hall which has a large window that everyone can see. Hunter tries stabbing the black creature but his blade seemingly just sinks right through the creature.

Jenkins and Hunter try to make it past the beast but it's simply covering most of the spots without killing it.

OOC: Kai if you want to roll to attack you can certain do that. Parry 10 for the Iron Creature. Aeress, Hunter, and Olyx.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

Liriam was doubting about what to do… On one side, the house sinking will soon split the team on two, and the shadows seems impervious to Quentin fire, even extinguishing it…

We should decide if inside or outside, but not get split” she said to Quentin. “Inside there were some stairs sown that I guess should be explored, but the house is full of traps…

In the meanwhile, she thought shadows cannot exist in light, so she had to try something. She began to sing again, this time a joyful song…

"Get back, foul beast!"

As if making her point, Aeress spiraled and came in at a bizarre, low angle, but one that allowed her to ram the spearhead in from an unprotected direction.

Okay I have no idea if anyone else is doing anything against it besides Hunter, so I'll correct my roll below.  Aeress will also Wild Attack for +2 more.

This should only be a 10 since Hunter + Aeress is only +1 gang up - 15:17, Today: Aeress Veles rolled 11,8 using d8+4,d6+4, rerolling max with rolls of 7,4.  Fighting with Modifiers. – 11,8

That might or might not hit so here's damage

15 damage total - 15:18, Today: Aeress Veles rolled 4,9 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,(6+3)9.  Damage - Strength, Spear. – 4,9

Forgot the Wild Attack in the calculation!  Thanks for heads up!

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

As Aeress stabs the creature in the side with the spear, she can feel the spear sink into it's inky blackness. It's body feels akin more to something wet and dark. Even as Aeress tries pulling out the spear she notices quickly that the darkness almost grabs it trying to pull it into the creature. She holds on but the creature itself seems to be stunned shortly giving the group time to make other attacks against it.

Meanwhile outside Lirian perform the song of light which with Quentin's efforts push the shadows back to the far edges of the property even past where the fire was going off. Still both Quentin and Lirian can see that the shadows are still grabbing at the light and slowly dissolving it although there attempts have bought them much more time than they had before.

The house drops another few feet now covering the front door completely and closing in Kai underneath leaving him now further down than the rest of the group. The creature downstairs with Kai steps forwards towards him (Kai you get another attack) and seems to be trying to grab him. It's possible the though process is to hold Kai until the building fully sinks below.

Still trembling from his ordeal in the dungeon, Olyx seems to wobble a bit, the sword heavy in his hands. But he takes a step forward and swings it at the creature nonetheless, hoping the glowing blade pierces through whatever unholy protection it has, yelling a battlecry at the top of his lungs. The longsword's blade flared up with the silvery glow as it approached the beast's flesh...

After dropping the brooch in Aeress' hand and zipping back up the stairs, Piper's dusty servant slipped up against the ceiling and over the melee with the shadow dog, and dropped down next to Piper.

She squeaked a command to it, and the thing darted into the room with the sheet covered furniture and flew towards the column in the room, intending to grab the circular object and then beeline for the nearest window to escape the house.

Piper held, waiting for the servant to complete its mission, before she spurred Mosii to follow it outside.

OOC: That's like two turns worth of activity for the servant, but I didn't post last round due to waiting on the clarification/map, and it's not really interacting/interfering with things that happened last round, so I figure it'd be ok.

Last round:

Hunter was holding action while waiting fir clarification and a map.

Hunter is desperately trying to get to a window and secure an exit. If there's a room with a window that he can get to, he'll do that. If the only room with a window is the one with the Bad Bed, then that's what it will have to be, and he will attack the bed and call for assistance. Jenkins will try to open or smash the window.

This round:

Depends on the result of the above, but probably the same.

Thanks for posting the map, unfortunately I still don't know where any windows are. Is the red thing the bad bed? Is the sheets and the globe room the bottom left one?

Let me know what I have to roll...

Quentin attempts to break and clear the nearest second story window as soon as he can reach it, so that we could move in or out through that as soon as practical. If he sees the canine, he'll plan to maybe breathe fire at it the next round. The house seems to hold surprisingly well, so he's still not sure which way the group should end up, agreeing with Lirian that it should be either, not both.

Chapter 1: Scene 7: Into the Mouth of Madness

As Piper's dusty servant grabs the circular object it creates an ungodly sound as it is seen from the hallway dissolving into the ether. The light seems to get brighter and brighter making it hard to even see what is happening. You cover your eyes and all the sudden you feel what feels like the world flip upside down and when you are finally able to open your eyes you are all outside next to one another.

The house once standing proud and tall seems to dissolve not into the ground but into reality itself and what is left is ruins of the house with a set of stairs leading down into the darkness. The shadows once eating the light are gone. Horses that you rode on are still not by your side. The gazebo is still on fire and burning. You stand in a daze and confused. What just happened?

As Aeress checks her pocket for the brooch in all the chaos she notices that it is still with her. When she looks at it she notices something very familiar about the brooch. IMPOSSIBLE! It's your families emblem.

OOC: Aeress before you can put away the brooch or even mention to anyone what you have discovered. I need you to make spirit check. Remember, no d6 added to this check. Just a straight spirit check. Kai, when this happens I need you to make a Smarts check, same do not add a d6.
