Am finished. I think I have meted out any mistakes or misunderstandings.
Comparing my character with those provided as potential PCs in MERP2 I am quite daunted to see Level 2.
Race/Culture has such a huge effect in MERP, it's a bit distressing to play a mere man :D

MM also get a -5 for having leg greaves.  Worth it, just saying.

Progress has started on my character but I'm traveling over the next day.

Soon I will have access to a printer again to be able to print out individual pages for easier access which will make progress much faster.

If anyone needs anything from the book let me know.  I'd rather help than risk someone finding a source not exactly the same as we are using.

We need to decide where we want to begin, and how you all know each other.  I have some notions but appreciate input.

We have:

 a Dorwinrim Man now a subject of King Bard in Dale, born and raised in Esgaroth.
 a young Noldor elf, most likely born and raised in Imladris.
 a young Silvan ranger, could be from any of the elvin realms (Woodland Realm, Lindon, Imladris or Lorien)
 a half-elf ranger; if the elf parent is Noldor or Sindar, then most likely from Imladris; if Silvan, could be from any of the above mentioned realms.
 and likely a Hobbit Scout, either from Bree, the East Farthing or Buckland.

Perhaps it helps if we decide where we end up, i.e where the campaign starts?

That is the same as mine, yep.

At this point was thinking we would start in the Eaves of Mirkwood, just haven't decided on the East or West side.  Character connections could help with that, as there is no reason for a Hobbit to be that far East unless traveling with companions.

For example, perhaps a ranger out of Imladris is friends with a Hobbit out of Bree; they have a mutual friend who is Noldor also from Imladris, and perhaps they went to the Woodland realm to take a message or something from Elrond to Thranduil, there they met a Dorwinrim man who was part of a trade delegation from dale to the Woodland Kingdom.

Just cannot yet come up with a good explanation why a mere young soldier would represent Dale in Thranduil's court.
How about Einar being part of a Dalish delegation that was ambushed and he was the only one left for dead and the Elves found and saved him.
That would allow me a specific Motivation to start with, i.e. learn who/what ambushed the delegation and for what reasons. Maybe even some sort of revenge thing. Not sure about the latter. Alternatively it was the group (or part of it) who found him.

Like you said, being east of the grey mountains might be the challenge for our hobbit's background.
I suppose I could change my culture to hail from further west, too, but mere skimming over those culture pages has not yet inspired an idea. A Dwarf maybe, but with so many Elves...

I didn’t say he was the only person in the delegation, just part of one.  He could be there to learn from the older men leading it, or as a guard.

Haven't decided my point of origin yet, but it'll either be Lothlorien or Mithlond. Does one work better for connections?

For eaves of Mirkwood the Woodland Realm of Thranduil works best.  Depends on other possible connections, of course.

Imladris makes the most sense for my origin.  The offer of adventure is really all you need to get me somewhere else.

If you don't mind I would switch culture to Rohirrim.

Background will be adjusted accordingly but will take some time as I need to familiarize myself more with history of Rohan

For ties in: I think I'll make Bosco being from Straddle / Bree area.  That way he is already a bit further East and out of the deep Shire, more likely to get in contact with tall folks.  I'll add some reasons in his background on why he is a weird hobbit (i.e. one that is willing to go further afield than the second field across the hill) so that he can be as far as needed.

If one of you had a reason to come through Bree on the last year or so, Bosco could have met you and we could have been travelling together for a few months but I don't think it is necessary. Imladris would not be too far from Bree for him to have travelled there alone.  Dale would be quite a trek.

Elly is a ranger, half elven, who has a familial interest in seeking out herbs.
Her home was a farm a little ways out from Bree.

@Incanus: yes still here. Needed to refresh my MERP knowledge.  I'll try to get it done tomorrow.  If I understand, we just write it down the key information in the Character Details but we are not using a specific template.

@All: If it's of any use, someone has made a Google Doc MERP sheet that seems to be working for me.  I am using it to build the character while double checking with the rule book and plan to manually convert to text for here.

That's great.  Bosco is from Staddle.  Now that he has reached adulthood, he decided that farming and growing herbs was not quite enough for him and he want to travel East.

We could have met and travelled together for a while, depending where the game starts.

Anyway, I just use Excel and Code it for RPol tables and dice roller config to allow me to do it quickly from the mobile.
And this simple 'tool' does not track DP expenditure over the levels.

RM would be a different story, of course :D.
