The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Happy to have made it in. I'll work on my character when I get home from work.

If I had to guess, the low requirement of the RTJ is gonna net you some more in the next few hours. Steel yourself for having to run through a few cycles of dissapearing players.

The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Hello all! Glad to be aboard!

I think BitD is rather popular as well, so I think that's definitely a draw. It was for me, at least!

I'll also post some character ideas a bit later. Looking forward to what kind of crew we'll be putting together!

The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Anyway, here's another playbook. I didn't make it, it was from a game I played in. I doubt anyone's gonna take it, but just in case:

quote:
Courtesan - An alluring and clever opportunist

Starting Actions: Consort 2 Sway 1

Special Abilities:

Pretty Face: When you Consort with or try to Sway someone who's attracted to you, you get +1d to your roll.

A Night To Remember: When you invoke a flashback that involves you spending time with someone in a private setting, you don't have to pay the Stress cost for it if it would be 2 or less.

Dressed To Impress: When you take care to dress up and look your best, you inspire particular awe or attraction among everyone who sees you. Gain +1 effect if you somehow use it to your advantage.

Every Rose Has Its Thorns: When you perform a hostile action against someone who doesn't expect it from you, you get +1d to your roll.

Mesmerizing Smile: When you Sway someone, you can choose to have them forget it happened until the next time they meet you. If that happens, they'll suddenly remember the event.

Siren's Call: You can push yourself to make yourself seem irresistible to someone for a short moment and either completely distract them for the moment or make them try to appease you as if you were someone they treasure. You can also choose to add either one or both additional features (each additional feature costs 1 stress): It lasts for about a minute or so instead of just a short moment. - It can affect a small group instead of just one person.

Comfort In Company: During Downtime, you can choose to spend some time with one other person (this doesn't count as a downtime action). If it's an NPC, either clear 1 Stress or gain 1 Coin. If it's a PC, you both clear 1 Stress.

Sweet Little Thing: You can expend your special armor to resist a consequence from a social faux-pas or someone's hostile attitude towards you or to push yourself when trying to get into someone's good graces.

Dangerous Friends:

Jack - a tavern owner

Miriam - a prostitute

Douglas - a sailor

Morgan - a nobleman

Simmons - a tailor

Items:

Fine concealed weapon (1 load)

Fine set of clothes (1 load)

Expensive perfume (1 load)

Makeup kit (1 load)

Fancy jewelry (1 load)

Unique XP Trigger: You addressed a challenge with social grace or cunning.

Re: The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Alright, so, first we should finalize the playbooks everyone's gonna use.

So, could you all mention 3 playbooks you'd like to play, in order from your most preferred?

Also, you all need to choose a Crew playbook.

Re: The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Character Playbook:
  1. Scoundrel
  2. Swashbuckler
  3. Reaver

My suggestion for Crew Playbook is Renegades, but I'm open to others.

Re: The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

+1 to Renegades. My second option for crew would be Loyalist, if it comes to it, but Renegades sounds fun.

For playbooks, I'd go:

1) Mariner.
2) Commander.
3) Swashbuckler.

Re: The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Hello everybody!

Looking forward to game with you.

Playbook choice would be:

1. Reaver
2. Occultist
3. Commander

Crew-wise my heart lies with the Phantoms, but every other choice is just fine, too, (Though I find the Loyalists the least interesting.)

The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Alright, I found some more notes from the game I played in. It had one more playbook as well as the unique XP trigger for the Courtesan (the version I found before lacked it).

So, here it is, just so you have all the options. There were multiple people interested in the more occult parts of the setting, so this could allow multiple magical characters in the crew, if that's the way you want it to be:

quote:
Witch Doctor - An enigmatic spiritualist

Starting Actions: Attune 2 Sway 1

Magical Remedies: You can Attune to serve as a healer, treat wounds or stabilize the dying. You may Scan a malady or a corpse. In addition, you can mix together a remedy imbued with magic, using rare resources. Resources with the value of 1 coin are enough for two doses of this remedy. When someone uses your magical remedy, they automatically fill one segment on their healing clock the next time they try to Recover.

Spirit-Talker: You are always aware of supernatural entities in your presence and know how to bargain with them. You have Potency when trying to Consort with or Sway supernatural creatures or entities. You also gain +1d to your roll whenever you gather information about the supernatural or negotiate with supernatural creatures or entities. When you offer some service in exchange for their help, you gain +1 effect.

Friends On The Other Side: When you are supposed to mark any level of Harm (including level 4 harm), you may choose to mark Trauma instead. In addition, Fortune rolls that would positively affect your character or their crew on a high roll gain +1d to the roll.

Wisdom In Madness: At the end of session, mark 1 xp if you have atleast one Trauma. If you have more than one Trauma, mark 2 xp instead. In addition, gain +1 Trauma Box.

Spiritual Aura: Your weapons, tools and your own body are imbued with spiritual energy. Gain Potency when fighting the supernatural. You may choose to extend the benefits of this ability to your nearby allies for so long as you are near them.

Hex Doll: When you manage to obtain a part of someone or something of value to them (a fresh lock of hair, a drop of blood, piece of skin, a particularly prized possession of theirs they have with them at all times etc.), and use it as part of a doll or a figurine that atleast vaguely resembles them, you may then Attune to use it to control their actions, use their senses as your own or cause Harm to them at a distance.

Back From The Brink: You may Attune to bring a dead body to life as an undead creature under your command. If the body is still fresh and in a relatively good condition, you may instead choose to bring it back fully. In that case, the dead returns fully to life, but marks Trauma.

Experienced Practitioner: You can expend your Special Armor to resist a consequence stemming from improper or faulty practice of magic or to push yourself when performing a feat of magic.

Dangerous Friends:

Siba - a tribal chieftan

Ignacius - an occultist

Larissa - a sea witch

Ongbu - a spirit of the land

Tabitha - a curio shop owner

Items:

Fine Ritual Knife (Load 1)

Ritual Garments (Load 1)

Shrunken Head (Load 1)

Component Pouch (Load 1)

Magical Remedy (Load 1, 2 doses)

Unique XP Trigger: You addressed a challenge with wisdom or aid of the spirits.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, regarding the Crew playbook, I'm having second thoughts just deciding it for you. Might be better to just use one of you for a tiebreaker, as the choice between those two will likely heavily affect the tone of the game.

So, Player2, please choose one. Phantoms or the Renegades?

The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

Hmmm, tough choice! I think I'll side with the Renegades, simply because it still leaves room for us to dip into the supernatural elements, without being purely pigeon-holed in that regard.

Re: The Portside Tavern (OOC Chat)

In order to make it more interesting at start, each player character will start with 2 special abilities from their playbook instead of 1.

The crew playbook will also start with 2 special abilities instead of 1.

--------------------------

Anyway, Crew Creation. The Crew Playbook is Renegades.

The way I'm thinking of finalizing the crew playbook and making the process faster is to assign one player to take care of each category. This kind of thing tends to stall the game too much in PbP format if everyone has a say.

So, this is what everyone is supposed to do:

Finn: Choose the Crew's initial reputation and also choose one region as its Hunting Grounds.

Player2: Do the "Describe your Crew" and "Assign Crew Upgrades" parts in the Crew Creation.

La Bella Donna: Do the "Describe your Flagship" and "Name your Flagship" parts in the Crew Creation.

Player4: Choose 2 special abilities from the Crew's playbook to start with.

Player5: Do the "Choose a Favorite Contact" part in the Crew Creation.

Now, even when everyone does what they are supposed to do, we can still make changes, but this way we atleast have a base to start from.

Finn: Choose the Crew's initial reputation and also choose one region as its Hunting Grounds.

Reputation: Ambitious

Hunting Grounds: Greater Guiverra (old world treasures if we are taking a treasure hunter approach, plenty of colonists to get hired by if we are being paid for work, or to steal from if we are becoming pirates)
