Jan looked sideways at Katya. 'Strange? You seemed to be getting along just fine. You went full western mode there...'

In reply to Jan Vrabec (msg # 114):

"What do you mean full Western mode?" Katya asked. "Consider your answer carefully, comrade. Because saying someone owns a dance style is a capitalist view."

Re: Track and Field Work (June 12, 1967)

Once they were back at the hotel, Katya asked for a telegram form from the receptionist and they returned to their room, where she started to write a message in English. She couldn't write it in code, because that would look suspicious to the people actually processing it.

"We're going to have to wait a few days for the cash to come over in the diplomatic bag." Katya said. "In the meantime, how are you with dead letter boxes?"

He shrugged. 'I know the procedure.'

He did not really want to get involved but, the KGB would not hesitate to blame him for things going askew. 'I assume someone from your service is keeping an eye on the Scientist, to make she does not 'shop around' the goods?...'

In reply to Jan Vrabec (msg # 120):

"She'll be shopping them around anyway," Katya replied. "She's got a very valuable commodity, and a lot of countries will want it. As for surveillance, they've not told me and it's best that we don't know."

She give him some details about places that he needed to check around the city and asked him to memorise them; he would need to check them out tomorrow.

Jan scratches his head. 'Is there a timing to check them? I cannot really tell you how long it will take me from a to b, I had no time to prepare for this adventure...'

Jan will try to use his rather poor language skills to see if in the hotel reception they have a city map he can use to make a plan of attack.

In reply to Jan Vrabec (msg # 126):

They were able to provide with an excellent map covering the whole of the city centre, with the outlying areas also shown in less detail. He did have to pay for it though.

He found his first dead letter box, located in a church in Coacalco.

Jan does his best at playing the 'Stasi tourist' archetype. He looks at his map befuddled. Then looks all around him as if trying to find some landmark. Of course, all he's trying to do is to find out if there is someone watching the dead letter box.

In reply to Jan Vrabec (msg # 130):

Jan saw that there was a rather long looking priest in the church, who stopped sweeping the floor when he entered and looked to see what he was doing.

He called out to Jan.

Jan hoped he got the gist of what the priest was trying to say. He said 'hello' in English and then pointed at one of the benches and made a gesture for prayer, sitting down in the process.

What and where is the drop in this place? Could either of them have used it? If there is no one in sight, Jan will take the opportunity to check the drop.

There was no-one in sight. Jan checked the drop and found a small wooden lollipop stick left there with a black dot stuck to it.

He pockets the lollipop and heads for the exit, not before stopping briefly for a final fake prayer, heading for the next drop.
