Newbie with Social Anxiety looking to get into D&D 5E
So, this is going to be a bit of an explanation. I'm not expecting it to be too brief.
I've been looking into getting into Tabletop RPGs for a while (mostly DnD*). I've even created a character for myself, with backstory and everything. I'm a creative type as well, and I love lore without really minding the underlying mechanics, because I just love worldbuilding, character, and seeing how it all fits together (I'm actually writing a novel involving elves, dwarves, and humans in a modern setting and having so much fun with it, including exploring the long-term effects of a stopped elven holocaust of humans a la WWII, whose horrors broke the idea of elven supremacy, a trope that annoys me to no end, as much as I like elves, and I'm trying to keep far away from the trope of dwarves as jews).
Anyway, the problems here are kind of multifold. First and foremost, I have bad social anxiety disorder (anyone who tells you school bullying is harmless doesn't know what they're talking about), which I am working on with a therapist, but it's going to be a long time before I work my way through it. This makes looking for and joining groups hard because I'm so nervous about it. She did suggest that something like this would be helpful, but I need to get there first. Secondly, I kind of want to find a new group, rather than an established one, or at least a new campaign, simply because I want to be on the same page as everyone else regarding the setting and everything and it'll be easier to integrate my ideas into the game, as long as they're accepted of course (It's a lot easier to suggest doing things x way when it hasn't yet been established for however many sessions that it's always been y way, especially with aforementioned SAD). Lastly, I think I would want to start online before moving to a physical group, but the tricky part of that is finding a group, as I said before.
Ultimately, I think I hope to find a game that I can fit with an enjoy. I'll look over the rules of the Wanted-GM subforum tonight then make a post there when I wake up.
*One of the members of my writing critique group (which I've gone to for years, and where everyone knows each other and we're all good friends and great writers, so I've long since stopped being nervous about going), is writing his second novel (a sequel to his first) based on two characters from his DnD group. It's so much fun to read that I think it piqued my interest in DnD.
(Copied from an OP I made on a different site, with some tweaks. I'm still at that site, just waiting for a game I want to join to appear, and I am positive I can handle two different games on two different sites no problem)
