Playing as a sapient ship, Eclipse Phase or other systems?

I just finished reading The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey, and the idea of playing a character who's a sapient spaceship like the protagonist of that story won't get out of my head. Travelling the depths of space under your own power, being both a vessel, a protector, and a friend for your crew - there's something strangely romantic about this for me. So now I'm looking for somebody who would want to run a game about such a character and any others wanting to come along.

System-wise, Eclipse Phase seems ideal for this (it would also let the spaceship character switch into a more humanoid body for planetside missions), but I'm open for just about anything.

I'm always down for playing EP. I think the system is perfect for the character concept as well. If you find a willing GM, count me in.

I'm considering restarting on RPOL a game I set up to run by video link using Mindjammer (Fate), in which one of the characters would be the AI which runs the ship.  Would that scratch your itch?  It's higher tech than Eclipse Phase, far further in the future.  If you have Mindjammer (any version) and any interest, let me know.

Mm, as long as clarity is upheld, freeform should service this idea well. Though, if you are insistent upon running numbers, then, I'm not the guy lol.

So if there were other players. They would be playing the crew of said ship? As far as travelling the depths of space goes. Are we talking, firefly-esque rogue missions? Lost in space trying to find a way back(or just a brand new) home? Or something more like starwars or star trek with an expansive universe?

I do well with story and plot but not so much world building. Firefly, lost in space, all good, but once we start getting to multiple civs it's a bit much. The races I could handle, even the planets it's just the diversity of those that would be too constraining uoon me.

Oh as far as posting goes you would expect a solid 2-3 posts a week, whereby you the players could feel free to post as much between as ya like.

Transit: The Spaceship RPG sounds tailor-made for what you have in mind. It's a Powered By The Apocalypse game.

Your role as an Artificial Intelligence is to inhabit an interplanetary vessel, manage your resources, and direct your crew. You'll deploy your ship's officers into the field, hunt down criminals, engage in interstellar combat, and deliver supplies and colonists to remote settlements.

@Alyse, Transit has a particular structure and flavor. Gritty, not epic, grounded (given the subject matter), mission-focused.

In reply to Lavender_Green (msg # 6):

I could be interested in a Freeform style of this game. I dont know Eclipse Phase (I always imagine the Eclipse Phase universe to be something close to the series of Altered Carbon :D)   or any of the other systems mentioned thus far in the thread.
