Wanted: Something funny and light hearted

I need something cheery.

Comedy superheroes (a la Incredibles)?
LEGO Star Wars
Funny D&d?

I’m open to almost anything as long as we are having a light hearted game.

How about a game about pirates using the Savage World rules?

Perhaps. Not familiar with savage world but I could learn. What is your angle on the pirates? What makes it funny?

Slightly wacky, genre aware, satirical, plenty of room for fun in addition to the action and adventure. There would be some Magical elements, Supernatural stuff like huge sea monsters or ghost pirates. Not at all historically accurate, in fact not even set in the real world.

Inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and Pirates of Dark Water and The Pyrates.

Shirty Ensigns (I'm sure you can figure out the real game title) is a really fun, rules light Star Trek themed game. The premise is all the players barely passed the academy and are more than likely going to washout or end up dead in a few months. You're just trying to survive the craziness that is space exploration. The best part is that if your character becomes too competent, they get a promotion and you have to make a new character.

And what about a survival game? Where you have to survive within the danger of the nature?, or on a island?

Shorty Ensigns sounds funny but maybe too much a one note comedy thing.

Island survival does not seem light hearted.

But a survival filled with drama and epic scenes should do the beat.

Maybe I’m not getting it. I don’t see how this will be comedy and light hearted.

Re: Wanted: Something funny and light hearted

Shorty Ensigns can be pretty one note, but I'm a huge Star Trek fan and if you enjoy the Trek universe it's great. It's pretty improv heavy for the GM but definitely a fun exercise worth trying. With my friends, the humor was pretty reminiscent of Star Trek Lower Decks,  but since it's mostly improv, that will definitely be GM dependent.

Re: Wanted: Something funny and light hearted

It'd depend on a) work easing up a bit and b) other players being interested, but I was halfway considering running something short and silly in honour of the season.

Due warning here that I'm primarily a horror GM*, so if the potential for ridiculous ceiling-splattering *ahem* ketchup accidents and/or possibly being devoured with or without 'OMNOMNOMNOMNOM' sound effects is never ever funny to you then don't worry about my suggestions at all. </Disclaimer>

The ideas I was playing with, should you be at all interested:

- Shennanigans when a group of LARPers in a small US town wind up accidentally including some (very confused) actual vampires in their Vampire game, using Fangs & Fakery, a hack of the super-simple Lasers & Freelings I found whilst wandering the internet.

- Finishing a set of comedy-horror using a PBP hack for Dread, probably based on Stomping Tom Connor's Sasquatch Song though I'd need a free moment or so to hammer the skeleton of a plot into something that could lurch about with a semblance of sucess.

- Extremely dumb B-movie-style slasher/creature feature using Dread again or possibly something more complex. Vaguest idea but I'm pretty sure I could pull it off if there was sufficient interest. Funny because old-timey horror comic cheese moon logic/mechanic rewarding satisfaction of other goals above survival.

*at General or Mature level, to avoid a laziness-induced slide from horror to boring old on-the-news horrible. I am all about the equal-opportunities axe, fangs or wood chipper.
