D&D 5e with Pop Culture Characters

Hello! I'd like to preface this request with an acknowledgement that what I'm proposing isn't an idea often held in high regard, but I'm absolutely not attempting to disrupt a game with it. The idea is a game for experimental pop culture character builds, inspired by the builds of Tulok the Barbarian on Youtube. For my own build, I don't need anything outside of the PHB and Xanathar's Guide except permission to reskin mechanics.

I'd like to play as Doom Guy, with a party of other characters who can be as set in a D&D world as they like, or possibly other pop culture builds. And I have every intention of taking the game and setting seriously and not making this as a joke character. Just looking for something a little different.

Homebrew worlds or packaged modules, I'm fine with either. Ideally, I'd like to start at level 3, when many builds start getting off the ground. I usually prefer level 1, but play by post being as slow as it is, I'd prefer to jump start a bit.

Anyone interested in running a game for unorthodox characters?

I might be willing to do it. As long as you'd be willing to go along with some obvious Pop culture adventures movie plots set in a D&D world. ;)

Although, my DM instincts warn me that Doom Guy...might be a problematic character. How do you see a character like that working within a group?

Doom guy = the main character from the Doom video games?

Are you trying to make a dnd abstraction of him? Meaning some kind of demon hunter type guy, but using typical fantasy weapons like swords and stuff?

Or are you trying to more exactly duplicate the video game character complete with guns etc, using dnd rules?

If this happens, I'd be interested. Maybe as Buffy the vampire slayer

I don't mind pop culture adventures! Sounds awesome!

He'd be a solid damage dealer, possibly an intimidating face for a group, and would work well alongside a team from his years of training as a soldier.

I'd prefer to use him as an actual space marine in the D&D world, complete with guns and stuff. Not the guns from the DMG, of course. I'd be using Eldritch Blast to represent a shotgun, Scorching Blast for a plasma rifle, Fireball as a BFG 9000, things like that. Again, I just plan on reskinning normal PC abilities, rather than getting any sort of special perks.

Yep! Except I plan on doing Doom Guy instead of Doom Slayer. No Unearthed Arcana needed for me! This means I might rely on others more for healing rather than being able to do it myself, but I don't have much problem with that.

Let me sleep on it. If it looks good to me in the morning, I'll make the game.

Well, I slept on it and decided to go for it.

link to another game

However, if someone else wants to be a Co-DM, I'd greatly appreciate it. I often go through periods of depression, and that makes me an unreliable long-term DM.

Unfortunately, the game didn't survive the holidays. Bumping in search of anyone else brave enough to run such an unusual game.
