3.5 Book of Vile Darkness

So yeah I want to try a villain campaign. I'm beyond burned out running games otherwise I might try it. Point being I want to play a group of evil characters who try to do what evil NPCs do. Heck if you got enough players you could even have a set of heroes for a sort of PvP kind of thing. All that being said I just want to let the darkness out just a little.

I'd totally be up for that as a player... Perhaps as a DM but I haven't DMed 3.5 in years.

I would be interested as a player if you would tolerate a bad guy who is occasionally heroic.

But he is only "heroic" if it will fill his pocket with gold he feels he earned, and also keeps him off the headsman's list.

He is a proud evil guy with standards, and manners. In an evil society he is the guy you call when someone is not playing by the rules...or you need an example made.

if this game gets going please send me an invite, please.

Definitely will make sure you know. And I don't have a problem with that concept. I like the thought of a Lawful Evil ruler who is who he is but an amazing ruler and does well by his subjects.

And it just hit me. What if it was a variant on Ravenloft? Just throwing it out there. Mid level truly evil characters trying and succeeding in escaping from Ravenloft as the beginning of the campaign. Like the intro is the escape. I'm just spitballing here.

So now we are up to 4 players at least. Come on I know someone wants to be an evil plotting GM. Or maybe the ultimate Hero GM to face down our evil selves.

How would you feel if I try to run Pathfinders Way of the wicked in Pathfinder and I allow the feats of book of vile Darkness?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am pretty set on my ways on using 3.5. while I understand that much of Pathfinder is backwards compatible(ish) in my experience 3.5 is not that forward compatible.

And once again I speak for myself I would want more then just the feats of a single book, but from all of 3.5. I want the classes, and races too.

I would definitely not withdraw my interest if Pathfinder was used but there would need to be a discussion on the conversion of many things. A discussion where both parties are happy with the mutual decisions made.

updating this post so that I am not spamming the tread with another message.

I have begun building the game, and it will be under the mature game rules to allow for a wider set of tools to be evil.

/help/content.cgi?t=faqs&page=maturepolicy

I will NOT be using adult because i will not be featuring "bedroom content", gratuitous or un-necessary violence and or gore.

the game has not started yet but here is the link the the game i have started spitballing ideas on.

link to another game

I have a character that was played for a very short time I could bring in. Pathfinder would be my personal preference.

Hmm, color me interested.

3.5e - check
PCs as bad guys and if they do good well you can’t be perfectly evil all the time - check

Does anyone have any opposition to allowing classless as an option? Each player may choose.
What power level are you looking for? Personally, 4th level seems to be a sweet spot where you have staying power can have your own minions and can start making your mark on the world. 8th is an established character. Not sure how long you intend to play the concept.

What style game are you looking at?
Sandbox where the sky is the limit
Dungeon crawl where you seek to claim your own wealth so you can acquire your own den of villainy
Central command and control where some sponsors send you into the world to maximize your evil presence
Or something else entirely
You could be cultists - those are exceedingly popular especially the ones that are about chaos and destruction.

I believe in sharing some of the work load. Plots and direction from the players that interest them is highly encouraged. I have some templates to inspire ideas for good side plots and reasons to bring the characters in.

I think Evil can be fun as long as we have a set of guidelines. What prevents you from betraying your group? What is the tone of the game? Any hierarchy to establish order or at least direction?

Any campaign setting in particular or open ended? Forgotten Realms is my mainstay but any realm is fine as long as nobody expects a strict adherence to the known NPCs and political intrigue (unless that’s where this game plans to head then we will work that in)

Since I’m horrible at keeping up with the Looking for threads can you please rmail your answers.

I’m guessing Adult rating would be desirable to allow the breadth of creativity and exploitation within the allowed confines of RPOL. I’m open to mature just means we have to be Rated PG-13 in how we post evil.

Per the RPOL posting guidelines:

This is an Adult rated game link and I am the GM of the game: link to another game

We went with adult because evil has themes that may be detailed out to get the right sense of response within the RPOL community standards. I leave it up to the characters to determine which adult themes they choose to use whether gore, violence and/or sexual.

Based on feedback:
Level 6 is the baseline
Classless is an option but will start at level 4 to make up for the power gap.

Sandbox with player input; campaign setting is open ended.

Leadership for minions is available regardless of class or classless option.

You’ll have to decide amongst yourselves how and why you have not decided to betray and kill each other.

Any errors please forgive as I am posting by phone.

All who have sent an RMAIL I will send you the link there as well.

Thanks,
