Rogue Trader! Or other 40k FFG games.

But the main preference goes to Rogue Trader, for it satisfies my fetish for ship-building needs for complex Imperium politics.

I'll have to admit that I'd like to try it as a solo game - I kind of want to see just how crazy a Lord Captain can go in the quest for Eldar booty riches and ancient artifacts without a table of people around to tell him 'No, wait a moment - that's STUPID', but I'd of course be open to group play.

If the GM we find (of course we'll find a GM) is truly a saint (and probably unemployed, from the time it'd require), it might even be interesting to set up a game with either multiple families or multiple branches of the same - each with their own ship and doing their own thing, with the occasional uneasy alliance to loot a whole world before the Everpresent Ominous Timer of Certain Doom reaches 00:00.

I do know a bit of 40k lore, but I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination - basically, you can expect me to know what can be found on a wiki, but not to have read any book. I'm also not particularly a purist - especially when it comes to Rogue Trader, so feel free to surprise me with your interpretation of the 41th Millennium.

I'm also open to stealing mechanical bits from the later games - I know several things made significantly more sense in, say, Black Crusade than they do in Rogue Trader (I haven't played in a while, but I remember Black Crusade at least gave you a reason for single shot attacks, and unnatural attributes were less insane). Since I'd be on the side of the GM screen with less headaches, I'll leave up to the GM to decide what to steal.

The other games are lower in preference (Roughly Rogue Trader > Black Crusade (played with some class) > Dark Heresy > Only War = Deathwatch = Black Crusade (played with mostly dakka)). I'd be at least intrigued by a Dark Heresy Ascension (Or similar concept in DH2E) game with a peek at 'big picture' issues (I played in one here many moons ago, and it was interesting until it crashed and burned).

A note for anyone who read this far, my ship-building fetish would probably also be satisfied by a Traveller game, but I only played that once, several years ago - so I'd be super rusty.

I was just thinking about how much I wanted to play a 40KRPG again and would like to say that I would gladly be part of this enterprise, whether it's for RT or BC.

I would love to get in on this as a player.  Not the post you were hoping for, I know, but I'd kick myself if I didn't speak up.  I have a mighty neeeeeeeeeed.

Still here, still looking, still TOTALLY not planning to solve every problem with liberal application of macrobattery salvos.

Applying macrobattery salvos is always good. So is ordering hordes of armsmen into the breach!

On that note, if you find that one GM saint, I'd love to play me some Rogue Trader. Yes sirreee... Been wanting to play that for.. years now. Yes. *tear slowly crawls down cheek*

1e Dark Heresy (and it's follow-ups Rogue Trader, etc.) were presented in a was that was a little to clean-cut and glossy for my liking. Too much focus on being badass and not enough on being an insignificant mortal speck of nothing in a universe that doesn't care (at best...). If anyone was interested in running something more grimdark in DH2e or beyond, I'd be game for that.

It might be grime-tinted glasses, but I actually seem to remember you had pretty reasonable chances of dying a horrible, chunky death at least in DH1. But the only semi-long-term I played was core only rank 1, so maybe it breaks later or with more books.

Less so, but chunky death is still very much present in any other game where you don't play a horribly mutated monster with redundant hearts and acidic spit champion of humanity.

If you're talking a narrative focus on badassness, well, the 'you're grimdarkly useless' is mostly reserved for DH and Only War. Space Marines are Space Marines, and I hear Rogue Traders might be a bit of a big deal in lore too.

Black Crusade on the other hand... well, it IS (or can be, Black Crusade can deal with an interesting amount of situations) exactly about people who refuse to be insignificant mortal specks of nothing - and who (probably) die horribly for it.

In reply to Larhas (msg # 14):

Hi, I'm new here, but I saw this and was wondering if you were still looking to try some Rogue Trader? I haven't GM'd before, but I have played a few sessions and thought the setting was pretty neat.

Always up for playing!
RT can be a bit rough on new GMs, but if you want to give it a go I'll try to be gentle.

This many-months-later bump post has been kindly offered by Owlcat Games, who just HAD to go and poke that itch.

Not changing the original post, as it's still mostly valid.
