Can you give us some more details?
  • What browser are you using?  Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera?
  • What's your screen resolution?  Not the screen size (15 inches), but the resolution (1920x1080, 3840x2160, etc...).

That'll be because the private recipient section is pushing the rest off the top.  Have set the focus to now be the thread topic, it is then hidden behind the (now) static toolbar but "post as" and all the important bits should be visible.

Hi! Two things - I did try to search and see if they were already mentioned but hope it's okay to add my voice to those already mentioning suggestions 🙏

  1. I want to second post #663 on restoring a different color to the Notice: threads if possible.
Couldn't see an option in the custom theme settings, apologies if there is and I just missed it!
After changing to the new layout, I often scroll past the top non-Notice threads when I go to look for them and there are no new replies (like say I recently moved from top thread 3 to top thread 1 and want to go back and check if the car that seemed to be following me was red or black or whatever), because the Notice threads blend in with the normal threads.

  2. I'm not sure it does it with tables made with the <table>/<tr>/<td/th> tags, but I've noticed that images push smart tables off the screen on mobile. I'm in a game where the character profile includes two small summary tables at the top and most of us players have a right-aligned image on the line above the table. On PC, this displays fine, but on mobile, the tables vanish and there's no way to scroll horizontally to see them.

A feature I miss:

On the old site (I know, not the yard stick we're supposed to use) you could search Player's wanted by subject line or poster. Both good ways to find an old ad to bump it. That particular search feature seems to be missing, and the search by system and style plus age of posting is a lot less discerning. And isn't any help at all for ads over 2 months old.

That search feature is still there, just a bit more hidden. Under the "This Forum" box on the right side of the screen, press "Search Threads". Took me a bit to find it the first time, I won't lie.

_Snowdrop_:
I'm not sure it does it with tables made with the <table>/<tr>/<td/th> tags, but I've noticed that images push smart tables off the screen on mobile. I'm in a game where the character profile includes two small summary tables at the top and most of us players have a right-aligned image on the line above the table. On PC, this displays fine, but on mobile, the tables vanish and there's no way to scroll horizontally to see them.

You've got be careful when floating images alongside text, anything that tries to force a certain width is going to cause problems once the view width narrows.  "Fixed Width, Word Wrap Off" (which is basically "<pre>" is the largest culprit (don't mix them!) but tables are going to try to force a width as well.

Previously we were allowing tables (and pre) to run rampant and force the width to be beyond the screen width, scrolling the entire page, but now we scroll the content within.  Something like this (if you're on responsive):

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
View on the old site and it'll make the entire thread spread out.

So with the "overflow" scrolling we now have the tables trying to shrink and scroll to fit into the screen width alongside the floated image.  If we take this off it'll be inclined to push the table below the image instead, but then we can uncomfortably wide content again.

I don't think with HTML/CSS limitations there's a way to achieve both.  I'll do some research but we ultimately might have to decide which behaviour is the lesser evil.

Still haven't found a way to completely resolve the issue, with the scrolling overflow what it'll actually do is shrink the content so it doesn't push over the page limits.  This includes shrinking away from the right-aligned image... and it'll shrink all the way down to 0 pixels wide.

What I've done is set a minimum width to 20 pixels.  A bit over one character wide so it's pretty darn narrow and you can still end up with a tiny table with a huge amount of left-right scrolling but generally on phones it'll be too squished small and rather than shrink below 20 pixels it'll position itself below the image.

Try it out.  Two other tweaks I did was set the compose box to be a bit smaller on mobiles so we can see a little more plus put in the green text for notices.

Wow, quick work!

I can't speak for others, of course, and I'm not savvy enough to follow the problem/solutions put forth entirely, so all I can say is it seems to work perfectly on my phone/device now :) Thank you so much, for both the table overflow and notice colors!

Looked through the custom theme settings and couldn't find it - is there a way to adjust the color of the 'Notice', now?

While I appreciate the ability to highlight that threads are, in fact, notices, the bright green is super jarring with my shiny custom theme. (I know it's the same color for the Group highlighting, but that's less obtrusive because the text is so small and not the first thing smacking me in the face when I pull up the page.)

I'd say another entry purely for colouring notices, which I don't think need colouring in the first place, is making custom themes way too complicated and finnicky.

That's fair, but it is weird that we can literally color everything else, including the new message indicator colors, but -not- the Notice/Groups colors.

If anything seemed like it should have been set in stone and non-adjustable, I would've thought it would be the message indicators!

(Edit: I'm only griping because I've had years to get used to NOT having bright-friggin-green slapping me in the face at the top of every page and clashing horribly with my theme. I'll obviously get over it, but I had to try.)

With fear of sounding cheeky/ungrateful, how many votes to the contrary would you need to consider SunRuanEr's request?

I'm happy so long as they're easy to tell apart, but I must admit I would appreciate the option to change it to match themes too if it's not a huge hassle to add :)

From a user's standpoint, I don't think one more setting would change anything complexity-wise. People who don't want to change it can simply leave it be, so I'd say it's more a question of whether there are enough users who would appreciate it to warrant spending time on it.

Of course, if it's tricky on the programming end, I'm completely fine with leaving it as is, I know it's a nice to have not need to have!

And unfortunately 'it's just one more' could apply to every single option/tweak/feature ever/to be proposed !  :P

I do use a custom theme - tweaked to resemble the default colour scheme on the old site.  I'm a traditionalist.

And since tis the season, I'm sure we're all excited that there's only 7 more sleeps till the old site gives way to Responsive !  Deck the halls and all that ... ;>

Well, the excited folk are already using it, presumably, so "dreading" might be more accurate, for those of us who prefer the dinosaur lifestyle.

Now please, excuse me while I grab my cane. Those kids are in my yard again, and I need to shake it at them.

Has anyone discussed the weird formatting descrepencies between versions? I swapped over to the new because suddenly certain characters were not working, but now depending on which version I view, my posts look really messed up. It also seems like old posts in the new interface look weird and would have to be edited. I'm not seeing this issue in other ppl's posts and it's starting to drive me crazy. Can someone please explain what is going on or how to fix it?

Posts made from the new interface -  look OK  when viewed with  the new interface.  Posts made from the old interface, look fine when viewed in the old interface.  A post made in one interface, looks wrong if viewed in the other interface.  However, (for me)  it is only a few punctuation characters.

I guess that Jase has changed the way that the system handles some punctuation characters.  Once everyone is using the same interface again -  it won't be a problem :)

The issue is it's only some posts. In a game I'm in, no matter the version, everyone else's posts look fine in both. Only mine seems to be messed up depending on version. Also, if I edit the post in new interface (r.rpol) in mobile and retype the same characters, it fixes it in both.

So how is this possible?
