The Sleeper Must Awaken

It is said that Creation turns in a cycle, an endless repetition of the Divine rising and falling, an ebb and flow of purity and corruption, of madness and rationality, of creation and war.

Just as it has been, just as it will always be.

It is said that in some of these cycles, Creation teeters or falls entirely, consumed in Apocalypse or Blight, and a spark in the void simply ends

Just as it has been, just as it will always be.

It is said that once a spark ends, well, that is it. All that was within that spark ends with it.

Just as it has been, just as it will always be.

* * *

But sometimes those saying such things are wrong.

Sometimes, an ember remains.

Sometimes, the end ... isn't

Sometimes, the Apocalypse is simply the next beginning

* * *

You are one of the huddled masses of humanity, surviving on the remnants of shattered realms in the aftermath of the War of the Gods. But you have learned a truth: this is not the first such conflict, nor will it be the last. In this lull between one cycle and the next there are fragments of celestial power that have not yet coalesced into the Divine. You have found such a spark within yourself, a quiescent godhood.

Enough perhaps that you may become one who Awakens, or one who wakes them?

Behind stretches a procession of Divines rising and falling, a legacy extending aeons. Ahead, the path is unknown: the Tree is shattered, but Nine Spheres have been reborn and soon their Divines with them

The Sleeper Must Awaken

Generations have passed since the World Tree shattered, the Nine Worlds blurred, and Time itself burned. Legends still speak of the War of the Serpents - Ragnarok, some called it - and the madness that followed the Shattering. Gods fell, their Domains unravelled to be re-woven as a tangled skein of threads. Realms were remade, a patchwork of what came before with their peoples scattered and diminished. Tens of thousands perished, whole species ripped from the cloth of the worlds. Of those who survived, they huddle in the ruins of pre-Shattering civilisation, knowledge of science and magic reduced to folklore and superstition.

Generations have passed, but stories still tell of the Gods before - the Crowned Stag and the Lady of Brass, the Reave of Coins and the Feathered Serpent, Shacked Weal and the Hanged Lord of the Cord of Thorns. They speak of Ruined Concordance, of the Nave of Hands, and the Palace of Leaves - home to the Pantheon of Branch and Crown, and the realm you call home.

Generations have passed, but now rumours have begun: strange lights, in the long abandoned halls of the Crownspire; sightings of Great Beasts, roaming the Wildwood; men and women, with newly-found powers akin to the champions of the Gods - powers like your own, manifested these past weeks.

Our campaign is lightly themed, based around some of a concept and setting I built out for a Theogenesis campaign. You are newly awoken Godbound, carrying the 'sparks' of the prior generation of Arch-Gods in a remade multi-planar setting that has experienced its own apocalypse. We're partway through our first chapter and there's opportunities for folks to adopt one of two NPCs, or potentially to come in as new Godbound.
  • Gevurah, an irethari underworld boss bound to Command, Death and - unwittingly - to Alacrity
  • Rukzul Doomhammer, a dwarven journeyman of the Guild of Reclamation bound to Endurance, Time and - unwittingly - to Sorcery
At the moment posting rate is every one to three days, and the players are in a shard realm between their home and the site of the final battle, where the War of Serpents between the pantheons sworn to Law, Chaos and Balance became something far more troubling

The Sleeper Must Awaken

We have one character, Gevurah, still up for adoption; they are relatively unplayed, an irethari underworld boss known to be bound to Death, Command and - unwittingly - to Alacrity
