God Game

Looking for player interest in a God Game. There have been many games with similar rules on this site over the years.

God Game

I probably wouldn't start until 2021 since the last few weeks in December are sparse.

Any theme choices that you are going for or changes to the traditional ruleset?

Probably going to reduce the number of acts per week to prevent burnout. I’m also considering increasing restrictions on acts as time goes on.

count me interested as well, though with my new job I would also have a limit on the number of times a week I would have the mental energy to post.

God Game

When last I GMed a God Game I did five acts a week, so that I could have a life on the weekend. Served me pretty well.

I've Gm'd these more than a few times. I'd love to play again! Haha. Best I ever managed was the fourth age. Mostly second age ends though. Still, a ton of fun.

Oh, I get the itch for them once every year or so.

Still, I'd rather have the opportunity to play in one myself. I have no played a god game in several years, only ran them.

As an aside, they work best when a pair GM them tag team. One to write replies and another to track things. Otherwise, the games are a TON of work for the GM and burnout happens fast.

God Game

I haven't seen one alive and kicking on RPoL for a very long time now. I expected to see one this past year because of pandemic boredom but alas, never did see one. If I was not running another game already I'd totally do this.

Has anyone seen some really interesting house rules in these games? To guide play but also restrict from certain types of creation at certain times, etc?

I've never been overly miffed by certain Acts occurring at certain times. I've had it bite me in the butt a time or two, but mostly I prefer real freedom on what acts can do.

I've used themes to guide though. Elemental, Domain, etc.: They can serve to focus players on certain aspects of creation. I've done games where the theme is pretty open and games where it was more restricted and the second one fires well more often that the first.

The real trick, as AO, is to guide without guiding. The way you reply to Acts can really steer the game certain ways. Still, it always helps to have a slightly more cohesive group. Loners or outsiders can often be problematic. I've found a villain among the group can really focus the group amazingly well. Someone for them to rally against, react to, and unify them. Hehe.

Anyway, that's my go to tricks.

Now I am itching to play badly and run again but I am busy.

Well for instance I've seen some that use special rules for creating life(must fit xyz so that the definition of life is the same across all members), magic(must do xyz, again so that there aren't eleven different kinds of magic), and domains(one that used artifacts that could circumvent some rules, for those who chose acts within a particular domain).

Those make pretty interesting rules. I've run many god games, one even went eight aeons, so I get what you mean by guiding without making rules, GMs fiat is a good tool, but I've found that if you set expectations from the get-go for most obvious things, then you end up with players who like to play by those rules. Less problem children, so to speak.
