IC: the Lighthouse on Silent Hill
I usually cope with The Season via comedy, but I have a deeply unpleasant task this year and the prospect has drained so much energy over the months leading up to it I just don't have it in me. Monsters, though, monsters I can always do. My proposal is to run a tiny-group/solo intense, highly personalised and character-driven horror game based on themes of isolation and a gauntlet of psychological torment: basically what you'd get if you filtered The Lighthouse through the Southern Reach trilogy, slapped in a dollop of Seashells and baked it with a large dose of Silent Hill. I have a plot setup ready to go, but obviously I would need extremely interested/invested players (and to know whether people want the underlying themes of sex & sexuality from the first and last of those inspirations/whether I'll have to run it at Adult).
Basic idea is that the characters are stuck on a rock/inaccessible promontory and have to look after the shipping, but the new lens has weird effects on reality; characters have to survive bouts of otherworldly incursion affected by their own deep doubts and fears, the North Atlantic weather, supply/general lighthouse management and each other.
System was originally intended to be FATE to get me and an interested party confidence with the system, but interested party got busy and ceased getting back to me, so I might actually run Dread as it was intended for once (or default to Call of Cthulhu with a couple of mods for modelling social sanity as well as trauma). Open to suggestions.
Would take a detailed post per week from a solo player but at minimum 2/week from multiple players.
Any takers?
