Looking to see what interest there is at the moment in a Lady Blackbird (LB) game set not in the Wild Blue Yonder, but instead in the ‘Verse of Firefly.

I would either reskin the game to take place in the aforementioned universe or pull some rules from Serenity and Firefly RPGs as they are similar enough to hack in.

As an alternate, run all new characters built-in LB for the Firefly setting.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm a ginormous fan of both Firefly and Lady Blackbird. Count me in.

I love the setting, but not the rating.  If you go with a non-Adult rating, I would be interested...  :)

I love firefly and have read lady blackbird. However I am extremely full with games right now. But good luck with that one and if you do run it / are running it if any my games get dropped then I'd be interested.

OakMaster do you dislike Adult for the X-rated content, or just in general? I pitch the game as Adult because I easily drift between foul-mouthed Soldier and erotic novelist. Though in most games I've run, the erotic side of things is not pursued by players. So I cater to the audience at hand. But, I fruiting have a foul mouth and generally write to adult concepts.

If none of the other players are concerned or agreeable with Adult content, I can always adjust down before opening.

I have heard good things about lady blackbird but never had a chance to use it.  A Familiar setting can only help with that.  As for the adult rating that is really the only option for the Firefly setting and tends to draw a more mature and focused set of players.

I'm more an Adult games person myself and I agree in terms of situation a game like that needs to be mature or adult but in the Firefly series the swearing was reduced to some gorram awful pseudo expletives inter spaced by bits of Chinese (even though you didn't see one Chinese person in the show, which was weird) ;)

Indeed.  That setting, and that treatment of the setting, would be interesting to me... :)

I generally don't drill too far down the rabbit hole with torture. I find that people are pretty good at filling the details in on their own in that regard. As far as rating goes, I'm working a compromise out in my head. What do you think about this?

If characters have an interlude, they fade to black in the main thread. Should they choose to continue roleplaying the scene out, they move to a different group access "private quarters." Those who don't want to see that don't even know that it is taking place.

I haven't done that before, so I am looking for feedback on that concept.

That sounds like a plan, as long as the overall game rating is not Adult.  I have zero desire to explain to my offspring why Dad is playing in an Adult game...  :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't let anyone on my computer, lol. And not just because of that.

The overall rating, though, will be Adult. I just wanted to offer a way for players to abstain from viewing that content if they chose and still participate in the core of the game.

Always up for a Firefly-style game (I'm currently running a beta test campaign for my Firefly / Deadlands PbtA hack), though I'll admit I'm not familiar with the proposed game system. Is there a good place to take a look at it?

Yes, the system is free from the creator. Just google the game name. One Seven Design is the creator's company.

I will have to dig out the lady blackbird rules (I haven't read them for a long long time) but as I recall they were very rigidly linked to a specific set of characters and a rigid scenario. What changes are you going to make to fit them in with a Firefly game? Are we still working to pre-made characters and / or a rigid plot?

It seems there is enough interest to spin the game up and explore more options in that forum.

I get the feeling that John Harper had the Serenity's crew in mind when he made this game. The similarities, at least, are very coincidental if not intentional.

1) I am open to creating new characters that fill the crew's roles: Captain, 1st Mate, Mechanic, Pilot, and Passengers. This would require the most work from players and slow the game's starting point the most.

2) We can modify the pre-generated characters as players see fit. Changing names, gender, orientation, and Traits/Keys/Secrets as needed but keeping the story connections. This a good middle ground between 1) and 3).

3) You can select one of the modified characters, negotiate any changes with me, and we can start.

4) The basics premise of LB is that the princess is on the run, and the rogues are helping her escape to her long-lost lover. I planned on making LB a graduate of the 'academy' (replacing magic with the psionic like powers of River Tam) and placing her on the run from the Alliance authorities who would want her back. Her long-lost lover would be a Browncoat turned pirate and hiding out on the ring somewhere. Other than that principal story element, the plot is pretty open even in the RAW.

Alright, like I said at the beginning of this post, I think there is enough interest to offer up a game and work out details in that forum. I will edit this thread to include the game link later today or tomorrow as my schedule allows.
