DnD 5e run of Ironfang Invasion for daily posters
I am thinking about running a 5e game on here, and I'm leaning pretty heavily towards running the Ironfang Invasion AP from Paizo.
Why Ironfang Invasion? I've already fully run a lot of the other popular Pathfinder APs (Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous, Skulls and Shackles, etc), and this one seems like something fun and doable on pbp.
Why 5e instead of Pathfinder? 5e is less complicated, and thus lends itself better to pbp in my opinion. Also, I've already ran Wrath of the Righteous converted to 5e and it was a blast. So I have experience doing this before.
I would be looking for people who can post daily. There is a lot of AP to get through, and even with me taking short cuts, I need people to post to move the game forward. Pretty much going to hard require posting at least 5 of 7 days in the main game thread.
I will also have a few house rules, solely to keep the game moving on a pbp setting:
-Standard combat has no initiative. You all go first (in any order). Once a day, I will make a summary post (probably 1am est), and then I go. Repeat. If you aren't able to post within that 24 hour period you continue what you were doing, or do basic actions. Reactions will be limited or need to be specified (eg "I will counterspell the first spell cast" or "I will use Protection Fighting Style when the Big Bad attacks").
-I also will use One Post Combat. You've already won this combat. We roll a d20 to see how easy the battle was, then you describe how you kicked ass. I subtract some resources. Then we move on.
-I will frequently make use of passive skill checks and I will always roll saves for you. Trying to limit back and forth wait and downtime.
-You will Fail Forward. Most people might better know this as Degrees of Success. This pretty much means that when you fail a skill DC, you still change the situation, and the story moves onward. You likely even succeeded at your attempt- just with consequences. Take the standard trope of a locked door for instance. Rogue fails his lockpick check? On most doors it still opened, but it took longer, damaged the lock, or broke his picks. Barbarian fails his athletic check to bash it in? Once again, the door still probably opens, but it took longer, he injured his shoulder, made a lot of noise, or lost his balance in the next room full of enemies. Regardless, I'm not going to make you roll again for the door.
-I will have dedicated IC chatting threads, and individual Player Character threads. The main game thread is needed to keep the game moving. You can have that back and forth conversation with the minor NPC (or another Player!) in the chatting thread and take solo actions in your Player Character thread.
I know this is a lot to post in an interest thread, but I feel I need to make this clear before hand. It's the only way I feel we can make any sort of meaningful progress. So anyone up for my kind of madness?
