Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands

I was thinking nostalgically about this adventure and was wondering if anyone was interested in playing it old-school: using the Basic/Expert D&D rules?  I would use the 1981 edition with the forward by Tom Moldvay.

Man if you said you were to going to use 5E, I'd be all over that.

I think I would really enjoy that. I was looking back on my B/X books with nostalgia, and appreciating the simplicity of early statblocks (which were really just a stat-sentence).

In reply to muledonkey (msg # 3):

One of the inspirations was the simplicity of the game.  I like 5e, but the old D&D is where I started.

Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands

I have been on a bit of an old school kick lately.  Definitely interested.

Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands

I'm interested. My edition is 4th Edition, but it's because I got my start with the Mentzer Red Box, and it evokes for me the feeling of the Elmore art on those boxes.

I'd want to play it by the book, and not try to fix or update anything. I'd also want it clearly understood how players who lost characters could get back in the game quickly, without having to wait weeks of real time.

Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands

My current edition of choice is 5th edition but I've had fun playing 1st edition AD&D so old school gaming definitely has some appeal. I'm interested!

By the book is what I had in mind, the only "house rule" is minimum 2 HP.  Having only 1 HP really stinks.

Not sure what you mean about players getting back into it?   DO you mean having to wait for the group in-game to get somewhere (like back to the Keep) in order to meet up?

OK, that doesn't seem too noticeable either way, and pretty easily lost in the noise people rolling 3d6 down the line.

Right. I don't care what I roll for stats or starting gold or anything, as long as when my character dies I'm not out of the game for a month before there's a way for me to play a PC again.

Re: Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands

If you have made the game and now want players then best to post an ad in Wanted - Players thread rather than here

In reply to Beolvine (msg # 10):

What I do is copy the web address from the Game Info page of my game and just paste it into the text. RPOL automatically translates it into a link for you.

Yep you can just copy and paste the link here, or write an ad for the Wanted - Players thread.
