Borderlands RPG - System Interest Check
With the wait for the new Bunkers & Badasses RPG to be released, I've gotten the itch to run a Borderlands RPG once again. For those not in the know, that's the Gearbox Borderlands franchise of video games. I like operating in existing IPs so everyone can get a quick baseline understanding of the setting and tone, and also because they tend to have ideas I'd like to explore further.
The only hitch now is that I'm waffling between two different game systems.
First up is No Rest for the Wicked, a Powered By the Apocalypse game. The mechanics for it are a cross between Apocalypse World's stats and Dungeon World's damage. It has playbooks for the ten Vault Hunters from Borderlands 1 and 2, and generally plays as PBtA does. It's easier to pick up and play, and slightly easier to run.
The second option is Savage Worlds, a tried and true classic for combat-heavy adventures. I have tools in mind for gun generation, how energy shields can work, archetypes for the existing Vault Hunter classes to show what's possible, and so on. It's got a lot more going on in terms of numbers and granularity than No Rest, and thus provides more options for making guns different and interesting.
Looking for opinions one way or the other. Not ready to open up a game yet, but it'll be good to have a focus going forward, along with a list of interested parties.
