Exalted Game

Hey all!

After a long long loooooong hiatus from online role play my life has gotten to a point where I can rededicate time to this most enjoyable hobby. While I don't have a ton of experience being a Storyteller I have quite an itch to play in an Exalted game. Since there don't seem to be many/any games available looking for players I am thinking of doing the next best thing, running my own game! Would anyone have interest? I have a few concepts kicking around but am open to making this into whatever gains the most player interest.

Thanks!

Which edition of Exalted are you considering? Is it a standard Solars game or other kinds of Exalted? I am interest in the earlier editions, warts and all, but some tweaking might be needed to make them functional.

Pretty open-minded. I have access to 1e and 2e and a few splats. Since this is my first run in a while I'd prefer the PCs to be Solars.

3rd ed is amazing, but not really interested in 1 or 2.

Heard about this game, but never really got a chance to play it.  I'd be down, if there's room for a newb.

Ya know I THOUGHT I had 3e in PDF, but turns out I don't. Thanks for the interest (or lack thereof I suppose, lol.) I am backing the new Kickstarter though so if that changes things let me know. But for now, I'll likely stick with 1 or 2e depending on interest.

side note, is 3e worth picking up?

Exalted Game

I've read/skimmed a couple of the books. In general, it seems to be better put together and more internally consistent, not just in the rules writing but in that the setting itself got a bit of a rebuild (still the same premise, but everything has a proper place in it now, and some of the... stranger things that found their way into the previous versions were axed).

It remains a very crunchy system, though.

I would say, regardless of 1,2, 3e or the new kickstarter I tend to be more on the roleplay side than the crunchy side. Not to say I don't follow the rules, but I tend to sacrifice crunch where necessary if it makes the story/experience better.

I've played all three, 3rd ed is by far the best system.  Everything is balanced together, because all the exalt types were planned for.

Exalted always was a growing game written by a rotating stable of writers, many of whom had very little idea what anyone else was writing. Sometimes in the same book (looking at you Infernals). 2E was better but hardly perfect although the writers did keep up with errata as a labour of love.

3E had the benefit of having most of the conceptual work done for them and written more consistently by the same group of people. As such it is more consistent but recently it had some of its own weirdness creep in. Build-a-bear exalts are something I can see vexing storytellers for quite some time. The main problem is that 3E is relatively new, a lot of people already own at least the corebooks for 1E and 2E. 3E? Depends.

If I may make a suggestion, how about a story centering around the reincarnations of a former Circle brought together by circumstance? The core party should already know each other well within one degree of separation. If everyone already knows everyone before Exalting it is less that you all "meet in a tavern" as "my friends and family need help".

That means the core would be Solars, corrupted Solars (like Infernals and Abyssals) as well as a possibility of their Lunar mates. That would be a good cross-section of splats and allow for Dragon-blooded to join as friends, allies or even fugitives. Sidereals of the Gold Faction could also easily join to "guide" the returned Lawbringers. This would give you the largest possible number of splats without being too newbie unfriendly.

Re: Exalted Game

I would definitely love to be considered for playing in an Exalted game.

Re: Exalted Game

Hm.  I know 2e forward and backward, and I dooooooo agree with K_K about tightening the themes and balance for 3e.  But unless there's been an official or well-loved back-bash to handle the initiative system, I think it's less suited for social/martial combats in PbP.  And I'll put up with a lot on that front.  I've run Exalted in systems almost as bad for it as Exalted.

All this to say I'd definitely pay attention to the game proposal.  Been a minute.

Re: Exalted Game

So the consensus seems to be that 3e is the way to go. While I will likely get it soon to satisfy my curiosity I'd like to get a game up and running sooner. So this will likely be set in 2e for now.

Re: Exalted Game

Yeah, it's kind of an issue, Third Edition has a better setting but 2nd edition has the most material available for it.

Exalted: Essence looks to be the best of all worlds but they're still going to be releasing bits for the next two weeks and then it's not finalized, so it may be preamture.

Re: Exalted Game

I've always wanted a go at Exalted, but haven't been able to touch it since 1st Ed since the group I used to play with preferred V:tM when it wasn't D&D.

Feels like we might have enough interest to get something going. I'll throw a game up later today / tonight. Be on the look out!
