Star Trek Adventures

So as I am putting aside time to de-stress and relax, I have started to binge rewatch TNG from start to finish, and intend to do the same for all the other series thereafter (I have tried to watch TOS, even HD remaster, but it just doesn't grab me). And as a roleplayer my mind wondered about running a Trek game once I was done - which will be some time off - and after some googling noticed an actively published system of Star Trek Adventures, which looks like an interesting combination of storytelling mechanics and dice pools.

While I have only very tentative ideas currently, I would have a small group only - not the huge crews of many Trek games on rpol - and probably not bridge crew if I were to run on a big ship. I would likely run post the Dominion War, but not too long after and would likely keep the Federation their typical open and friendly selves rather than how they are in Star Trek Picard. I did also have a vague idea of a Marquis game, set when they were around. Or I may end up running one of the many pre-written adventures to start with and get used to the system.

So my questions are: is Star Trek Adventures any good, and is there anyone around here who would want to play?

I think it's a pretty good game, and I'd like to play. There's certainly a ton of support available.

Star Trek Adventures has been a good system the two brief times that I was able to play it. Most of the material seems to assume the NextGen era, although it has options for running things in earlier ones, and that also fits the general tone that the game sets.

I played a few sessions of it, thought it was fun, and didn't see anything broken in the system - never got to space combat, not sure if that's handled well.

I would play a game of it on rpol.

I definitely think STA is a good system and I also would be interested in playing. :)

Star Trek Adventures

I'd join- what experience I've had with the system seems to be fun!

Well it sounds like there is some interest in the system, which is good!

Are there any adjustments needed to run it easier on rpol? I did notice the experience/leveling up system is different than most, in that you usually are just shuffling your points instead of gaining more.

Yeah, there's not much leveling up in STA -- characters are very competent from the start, rather than going zero-to-hero.

As above, character development isn't about getting more powerful so much as it's about the character's personality and priorities shifting according to what they've experienced. In particular, elements of their personal philosophy (Values) are expected to change over time, just like you see happening with characters across TNG and DS9.

Yes I think this is what intrigues me most about the system, that it is far more about telling character stories than defeating foes and getting stronger as most RPGs, even Trek ones - and rewards players for doing so.

Got core book but haven't had a chance to play. From what I see its a good game. Last Trek experience was the old Last Unicorn one.
