IC: Mass Effect RPG

Out of curiosity, was looking to see if there would be any interest in a Mass Effect game.

I have several ideas I can go off of. One being having OC characters placed through the Reaper Invasion as Command Shephard and allies deal with what the core games covered. Players would be placed during those events and dealing with their own battles and stories while the Commander was doing their duty elsewhere.

The second idea I had for this was if anyone has ever played ME3, we all know there was several endings that could be chosen from and that would place characters in the aftermath of the Reaper invasion. I'd essentially have players vote on which ending they wish to enact and that would give us the layout for the course of the game. Once again, OC characters dealing with the consequences of the Commander's choices.

As far as a system goes, I know people are usually not a fan of freeform and I personally like a freeform game from time to time. I'd essentially would want to use a system but am unsure what system would fit best for a game like this,  but if enough interest sparked for a freeform game, I could also work with that as well.

So let me know your thoughts! If enough interest comes through, this would take about a month or two to get things ready and prepped as I will have enough down time to do this because of a medical emergency I experienced a couple of days ago and will put me out of work for a couple of months.

IC: Mass Effect D20

Mass Effect? Yes, absolutely! I love the setting. All the more so if you just sort of rewrite the ending of ME3 so that the weapon just wipes out the Reapers and not all life/completely undoes all the work we put into that setting. The reason I recommend that is because it leaves things so much more open and interesting: the Genophage solved, the Geth have their own individuality and are free to seek out a purpose as an entirely new race of sentient beings, and you can explore the conflict and challenges in rebuilding a galaxy.

Mass Effect is amazing. My second-favorite sci-fi setting, I think! I'd be down to play whatever system you choose. D20 is okay (the core engine is just not that great), but I've statted up Mass Effect in Mutants & Masterminds, Tri-Stat 3E/4E (which would be my recommendation), and others. It's all pretty easy. If you wanna give it a go, with any system, or want input on how to make other stuff work, please let me know.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! If only we had a Mordin here....

I likely may not use the D20 system after skimming through it and what not. I have to find a system more better fitted for this, but I love the input you have given me and I honestly say I like it.

What I would personally do is a setting in 2180 CE, before the events of ME and set in the "status quo" of the Mass Effect universe, but Aerith's idea is pretty awesome too. Shepard and Liara actually managed to make the Crucible work? Instead of having to agree with it one way or another, or die, just to make some cheap drama. </ME3 Ending Rant>

Anyway, you know I'm interested.

In reply to WhiteComic (msg # 3):

Various people adapted Mass Effect to FATE, OpenD6, and TechNoir, and I've seen a bunch of Genesys hacks as well.

Savage Worlds, as well, and many others. There are certainly quite a few options!

WhiteComic, really, even if it's the D20, just go with whatever is best for you. A lot of us will join in no matter what!

I'd be up for it for sure.  If its not a system I know I am always willing to learn.

Savage Worlds is a good one because of several elements, not least of which is that protagonist and hero types stand out in the way characters in the game do and your characters generally start good at several things and then can spread out or focus - you start competent.
The sci-fi companion's got a ton of stuff in it, also there are a ton of fan-made ME hacks for SW.

If you go D20, I'd take a look at the old Vitality/Hit Point model they used for Star Wars D20 too - which was a nice way to keep guns dangerous without adding damage left, right and centre.

Wonderful. I have several system suggestions and I'll take a look at all of them and see which one I'd like to go with. As I prepare the game, I shall let you all know when it goes up. Should take me maximum of a month to get it up and running, probably less.
