Re: Version 1.8.53

That doesn't sound like RPoL, but rather something on your end (jase hasn't changed the site in the last couple days, afaiaa).  And I can't reproduce it in Opera here either (but I haven't tried really hard, either).

When it happens, does deep-refreshing the page help?

Re: Version 1.8.53

Since Opera 11.62 (released at the end of March this year) you can use Control+F5 or Shift+F5 to force a refresh.

Make sure you're on a recent version of Opera (as mentioned, they were incredibly slow at supporting this) and then try one of the above tricks.

Changelog for Opera can be found here; http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/1162/.  The above feature is listed there.

This is my new Wii, I dont think its version of opera even updates anymore, and there are no F/x keys on its keyboard.

Re: Version 1.8.53

Oh noes, I have a problem! I have some posts with fairly big tables. When I edit the posts in Compatability mode, I get a scroll bar in the text box. With Compatability Mode off I get word wrap instead, which makes them very hard to work with. And if I paste the table code into notepad I lose the line breaks.

Is this a setting I can change?

Re: Version 1.8.53

I'm pretty sure we've always had word wrap, unless you're editing a character sheet with fixed width on.  So no change there as far as I'm aware (though I know sometimes editing a post with a lot of long lines in it would stretch out the compose area, though it never should have (and I don't know if it still does)).

As for C+P losing the line breaks... I can replicae it here so I'll have to look into that one.  You can C+P into wordpad, then C+P from that into notepad, that seems to work ok for now as a workaround.  (Or use an alternate text editor, generally one that can handle files with just LF, rather than requiring CR+LF.)

Re: Version 1.8.53

Compatibilty version just sucks for those scrollbars Vinny -- see my posts on it, above.   One Notepad replacement you might try is EditPad Lite: http://www.editpadlite.com/  (it's free).

Re: Version 1.8.53

In reply to Vinny (msg # 91):

I never doubted that it did!  What IE (or any browser) decides to do when ignoring/changing the original layout is completely up to them.  It's entirely possible to have a horizontal scrollbar in a textarea field - edit a character sheet with fixed width on and you'll see, but you'll also see how dang annoying it is when typing out normal messages like this.  Who wants a paragraph of text scrolling off into the distance on one line?  Not I!

Re: Version 1.8.53

RPOL actually looks pretty good on the iPod Touch's iOS Opera, and I don't see an appreciable difference between the regular site and m.rpol.net, but word wrap is occasionally a problem.

RPOL looks much better on iOS Opera than on Dolphin, where the text is too small to read without zooming.  I can read on alert without zooming just find.

How does one do this? I have looked at the Help window and it doesn't say how. I've also looked around on the menus in game and don't see anything that allows this. What do I put in the link to point to a specific post?

Just figured this out myself, take the url of the page you want to link to, and add # followed by the message number you want to link to.  So if you wanted to link to message 12 the url you link to will look something like /message.cgi?ABunchOfStuff#12

The reason this is listed as unreliable is that if msg #12 moves to the next page, then msg #12 no longer exists on the page you're linking to, and so the link no longer goes to the message you specified.

How do we do this? I'd like to be able to link to specific messages (especially useful for closed or rules threads)

Ah yes I see.

The message posts now have anchors in them with the message id set as their name, so standard html section links will work... and it will be forward compatible with html5 as they also have their id set to the number as well.

Re: Version 1.8.53

Assuming editing a post is possible indefinitely, correcting the broken link because of page # changes is always possible. It would work better in a game rather than any of the public forums - messages accumulate too quickly.

Re: Version 1.8.53

Is it possible to link to a thread that displays alll posts in that reads thus making linking to individual posts reliable?

Or have i completly missunderstood whats going on.

Re: Version 1.8.53

The link to individual posts is only unreliable when new posts are added to the thread, and then only if enough posts are added to change the page number for that particular post.  If you link to a post in, say, a closed thread (as in, reference to a past IC event) or a Notice thread (assuming the GM isn't adding any further information to the notice), then there should be no problems with it.

That is, if I'm understanding how the whole thing is supposed to work.

Re: Version 1.8.53

In a thread of less than 1000 posts, use the "All" link before copying the URL.  Then just add the post number to the end.  This avoids pagination.

Re: Version 1.8.53

Thats what i asked so it does work.

However is there any downside to using the all URL?

Re: Version 1.8.53

It only works in threads of less than 1000 posts.  It can take longer to load for those on slow connections.  If only one person has inserted unbroken text or a huge image in only one post in the whole thread, the "All" display will be stretched crazy wide and make you scroll left and right to read.
