Re: Version 1.8.53

I'm using Windows 7, 1920x1080 resolution, tried both Mozilla 8 and IE 9. Forced refreshed.

My only real concern right now is that on the Player's Wanted forum, when I zoom in (either text only or normal zoom), the Topic column that holds the game's/ad's name does not seem to expand quite like the others, and instead the letters get bigger and just start wrapping (more than expected) breaking the name into several lines. This is contrary to the other columns, which all appear to expand horizontally fine.

So, the other columns appear to expand their widths proportionately to their original un-zoomed state, while the Topic column shrinks in proportional width, kind of getting "shoved to the side."

I don't know whether it's the code or just my machine. But I would prefer if the Topic column holds more "weight" when zooming the page, so that it will expand proportionately or even more than other columns. The name is probably the most important part of that page, at least to me.

Someone please just let me know if I'm just being stupid though :p

EDIT: This happens for other pages with Topic too, but it is less noticeable to me on those, probably shorter Topic names.

What was changed about the fonts? I can't see any difference...

Re: Version 1.8.53

Only IE users will really notice a difference in the font as the change from quirks to non-quirks mode made IE change the font (well, the font didn't change, the rendering of it did) rendering to "sub-pixel positioned ClearType to render text by using DirectWrite".  Or something like that.

All browsers should see a slight increase in the line height.

c - Strange how it seems to be limited to Vista, I'm using the exact same version of IE here on Windows 7 and it's fine.  I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference either!

Re: Version 1.8.53

In reply to kouk (msg # 58):

That'll be due to the increased number of spaces, which are deemed appropriate wrapping points, in the topic text.  Not much can really be done about that one, and I would have expected it to behave the same way before the update.

Re: Version 1.8.53

I've changed the images to not only have "align='right'" but the CSS of "float: right" as well.  See how that goes.

Reposting and adding info as per cruinne's instructions:

Lance H:
Okay, well, I tried to post the screen grab here, but apparently image posting is disabled in this forum.  So here's an external link to what I'm seeing:

Since the recent update, the subscript and superscript buttons have been slightly off-kilter in IE9 (I know the fix: use Firefox.  I do, but at work we use IE.)

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1.  My browser is IE 9.0.8112.

Re: Version 1.8.53

I don't know if this is new with the update or an old issue, but on the mobile version of the site (since I've only just started using it), the character details, dice roller, etc. bar shifts down sometimes, so it overlaps the horizontal line which should be beneath it.

In reply to Lance H (msg # 65):

Turn off compatibility mode.  That's the teared page to the right of the address (and to the left of the refresh and cancel button).  You'll find it's blue at the moment (or whatever's appropriate for your Windows theme), click on it and it'll go to a dulled grey.

Re: Version 1.8.53

I have another glitch to report: Using the Opera browser Wanted - Players, and only that page, scrolls funny, It thinks there are 2 extra inches to the page, and wont scroll the top bar over to show main menu untill you scroll those extra inches of blank background.

Is this every page or only some (e.g. not the first page but happens on page 2 (where there's a hover over for the game system))?

Re: Version 1.8.53

Whoot jase -- turning off Compatability Mode (I hate how it sneaks in with no warning -- grrr) totally fixed the keyboard-navigation issues I was having.  Thank you!

[Note: Checking WP on Opera 11.62 on Vista, I'm not seeing any odd scrolling or spacing at all.}

Re: Version 1.8.53

Yeah, unfortunately IE7 (released in 2006, superseded by IE8 in 2009) is very far out of date, and doesn't support modern HTML or CSS.

And even more unfortunately, a lot of businesses refuse to budge from it, leaving about 4% of the users out there a little fruited.

I noticed that even one site was implementing a 6.8% tax on users who insist on IE7 because, "This is necessary due to the amount of time required to make web pages appear correctly in IE7."  http://www.redorbit.com/news/t...b-of-ie7-with-a-tax/

I switched it off when the message came, but I prefer the way the fonts looked in the "compatibility mode on" version. Can I ask what are the problems with it?

Re: Version 1.8.53

I hear you. The problem of using someone else's box :( (A manager was asked back when IE8 was new if we'd be upgrading. She wrote back 'no', everyone interpreted that as 'we will never upgrade ever for the rest of eternity' and now we're stuck. Office politics at its best.)

Re: Version 1.8.53

In reply to Vinny (msg # 74):

Things may not lay out or position properly on the page.  See posts above regarding keyboard navigation (#55) and formatting links (#65) for some of the potential problems of using IE in compatibility mode.

Using it that way is your choice, of course, but I doubt jase would recommend it and if you have trouble with site functionality, the first step to solving it will be turning off compatibility mode.

Dolphin Browser HD 7.4.0

I've realized that what's happening is that "Mark all as read" is being crushed onto multiple lines due to lack of screen space. The header is also truncated to fit the original screen size, but horizontal scrolling is required to actually see some of the nav bar items.

Re: Version 1.8.53

Vinny - What c said regarding compatibility mode.  Stick with it, the fonts start to look better after a while, though I still notice the difference (well, notice it's different (than whatever it looked like before)).

erbridge - Obviously it didn't happen before?  Always a bit of an issue figuring out what it did before, but I'll see.  It must have squeezed things around differently prior.
