Hi, is there a way to embedd a link that show up as a sound player, like the oen for images? Something that would let players click on it and hear the mp3 hosted at another site.

Pretty sure there isn't and won't be anything like that.

There was a Basic D&D game where the GM had managed to link to an external audio file. You had to click on the link to get the audio to play, but it was sorta possible.

No embedding. Just a simple link. I'll look around for it.

Found it. Looks like they linked to a page where the player was embedded. So, I suppose the answer is "No, you can't embed them in RPOL." But you can get close.

It's probably easier to link to YouTube the same way you'd do for any other link. Anyone who has a functioning mouse or keyboard shortcuts can open the audio (video) in a new tab and listen along whilst reading game posts in the original.

That's exactly what I usually do: Link the audio on another page (wherever that is, as appropriate), and code it to something like

<a href="audio content url">PLEASE PLAY THIS IN A SEPARATE TAB WHILE YOU READ</a>

It works, it's easy to tuck under an image header for important moments or what have you, fits well in a table, etc.

Great tip Morgan.  I do remember years ago that you could modify the youtube link and the video would show in a post but I have forgotten how and think that it was purposely made impossible due to the server overload but I am not a tech person.

Again just post the music link from another page and ask as you have said that players open it in a different tab.

Some would love to have a link playing as you open the game page but then others would hate that and find it annoying.  What Morgan has said gives each player the CHOICE.
