Thoren takes the scrolls when Landor holds them out. Thank you Lady Swift. The bard quickly reads the scrolls not wanting to hold up the party.

(casts read magic )

(These are the spells we found.)
Alarm
Change Self
Reduce
Shield

After casting his spell Thoren read the first scroll fairly easy, however the next three are much harder for him to understand. After studying the last three scrolls for a couple minutes, the dwarf looks up at the party, I am familiar with one of these spells. the other three I understand and I think perhaps I can use them. after slipping the spells into his scroll tube he adds.I'm ready to move on when you are.

"Hopefully those will be useful sometime soon!" Lyrian says, and tucks the wealth away for the moment, to be distributed later.  "Now, we're going down?  I doubt that demon was telling the truth... unless the truth was to lure us into a trap.  There's a fair amount of 'down' we've seen around here, but which route to 'down' would take us where we need to go?"

After talking to one another and decided to find a way down, the group heads east and then down a hallway. They pass by some doors which are closed and stop as they approach a chasm.

They spot a stream running through the dwarven fortress that goes down into the chasm as well. It looks about 100 feet long and 50 feet wide. The group think they heard water below as well but its dark. Across the chasm, a small ledge is visible.

looking over the chasm Thoren turns to the group. I can cast levitate one person, I can control the decent for 5 minutes and it will work for up to 500lbs. Perhaps I could use the spell on Gar and he could carry some one with him.

Gar shifts in the spot, clearly uncomfortable with people using magic on him. With Landor's wisdom of attacks from above, even more so.

"I'd rather swim the river than magic..."he muttered under his breath. He none the less looked around, pondering beasts in the dark.

"We also have the scroll that will let us climb like a spider on the wall.  Someone strong with that spell upon them could also carry another person, if we wanted to use that.  That would leave one person.  But, I have fifty feet of rope in my bag.  Does anyone else have rope?  Two of that together would let me climb down.  I am an excellent acrobat, and used to be a rope-dancer in a traveling show," Lyrian offers.

The crow samurai decides to climb down easily enough not needing a rope. Everyone else can get down in time, so the spiderclimb spell isn't needed. After everyone gets down to the bottom, they can see the following:

A thundering spray of water fills this small chamber, pooling and flowing into a large river to the north. The air is damp and the roaring of water is deafening. A broad ledge heads north towards the river that the group is able to get to and it leads further towards the east to a small bridge that leads across the river. The muddy banks of the pool look like footprints or tracks of some kind might have been disturbed.

The barbarian was glad that there was no magic used on him. He climbed down the rock slowly with a few grunts as he went.

On the ground, he took his axe out, looking around in the darkness. He was cooled by the water, but the warrior knew that where there was water, so to there was things that drink it.

While the others defended, he stood on guard, his axe ready

The dilapidated bridge leads to another bridge that winds southeast alongside a very large lake-the source of the underground river. The cavern is quite large, the lakes far shore is lost in shadow and the echoes of water seem to indicate a very sizable cave. As the group moves alongside the lakeshore, they hear a small splash and catch a glimps of a small green light moving in the darkness. Then the water erupts as a black-scaled creature the size of a small house comes up from the depths. Without warning, acidic breath pours from its mouth, hitting the entire group from behind! It then sinks beneath the water. Where it is, remains unknown!

OOC
DC 17 to save. 18 Points or 9 if saved.

Somehow Lyrian's reflexes manage to let her respond fast enough to throw herself entirely clear of the creature's painful breath.  Heart pounding, she sought a shadowed crevice to hide herself for the moment, imperfectly concealing herself in a shallow depression to observe what in the Nine Hells just happened!

Landor cried out as the acid hit him full force. He turned but wasn’t fast enough to see where the thing had gone. It was too dark. The only way they were going to even the playing field was by shining a light in the darkness. Most cave lakes were sparkling clear due to not a lot of dirt or vegetation to muddy it. “By Pelor’s might, let there be light!”Landor’s Armor shined out like a bright sun in the cave illuminating the majority of it. He then peered into the water now that it would be easier to see.

OOC: Cast Daylight, 60 feet illuminated, another 60 feet of dim light.

Gar winced at the acidic breath of the unknown monster, surprised for a moment at it's appearance, and stood ready, axe in hand.  As normal with him in battle, he felt the red haze of battle clouding his judgement, but held his mind, knowing full well that he needed to see it to attack.

Thoren was enjoying the view of the huge under ground lake cavern. The sting of the acid brought Thoren to his senses of where they all were and how dangerous this place was. Yelling SPREAD OUT! as he moved away from the waters edge. The sturdy little bard began tapping on his drum, using his magic to inspire his new friends.

Lyrian seems weary, waiting up front near Gar.

Landor casts his spell, giving the group a better view but the water seems murky.

Thoren starts to play, slapping his drum and steps back towards the group.

But then the creature jumps and flies out of the water. It lands near the dwarf and kenku! It tries to rip into the bard and succeeds!

The barbarian fills himself with rage and moves to hit the creature! But misses!

Gar, seeing red take over his vision, roared as he waded in, swinging his axe and screaming with such fury that made him look like a full blood orc. The group had never seen this side nof him, he was usually methodical and guarded, but when his friends faced real danger, that's when the anger wells.

With spittle flying, he flung himself at the beast in a ferice overhand chop.
