(IC) The End or the Beginning?

Lyrian is frustrated by the speaker's refusal to see that gathering information could be their only real edge against a horde of hobgoblins.  Why rush headlong into the Keep, when that could get them as dead as challenging them openly?  Lyrian wasn't terrible at sneaking, but some of the others were dreadful at it.

Well, it was no matter.  If they could not get the town's cooperation, they could try to find out information by themselves before heading right for a building chock-full of enemies.

As for the blacksmith...  Well, perhaps it was time to try something a little stronger than her little hand crossbow.  It was lightweight, but hobgoblins were tough and went armored.  "I was looking for a small crossbow.  Larger than what I have, but not needing a warrior's muscle to reload?"

(IC) The End or the Beginning?

The smith glances at all the gear presented to him but only seems interested in the masterwork and magical items. He tosses one of the light crossbows and 20 bolts to Lyrian that the group already had. "Not interested in these items eh. I'd just melt them down or give them to the guards. Iffn I could I would say give yah for all them masterwork gear say 2000 gold for the lot. And fer that there magical gear, say 3000 gold. 5000 gold. But I don't got that much coin. So I'm willing tah swap with yah. Weapons fer weapons, armor fer armor. Or iffn yah want I can make yer somethin' but it'll take time." He jots down where the wise one is, probably the best bet for different magical gear and holds it out to Roy. He then ponders it and jots down where the Old Ones are-the druids "There be others spots but those should help yah out." He grunts and lights up a cigar.

Tai is still silent for a moment as he sits cross legged on the ground. It seems no matter where he is, he gets comfortable-and deadly at the same time. His eyes are close, blade over his lap sheathed.

A lot of money for a small shop so can't really afford it. Willing to swap. You can also keep them too or put them in storage (got 2 warehouses too) or can take the items and let the guards have them.

He has available magic-wise:
+1 Longsword
+1 Heavy Steel Shield
+1 Breastplate
+1 Chain Shirt
+1 Arrows (50 total)

Visible within the shop, might have more elsewhere.

And a ton of normal weapons, probably masterwork ones.

All listed below are put in the groups wagon:
4 Longswords
4 Studded Leather Armor
3 Light Crossbows
12 Longbows
16 Quivers
-- A lot of arrows
01 Light Steel Shield

Interested in:
12 Masterwork Longswords
01 Masterwork Heavy Mace

Def interested in:
+1 Shortswords
+1 Banded Armor

Gar, looking around the shop, pauses at the arrows and couldn't help but smile. Since the fight in the caves he had realized the use of ranged weapons, and though he favored his melee weapons, ranged was something he was using more.

He looked at the smith. "Your chain shirt isn't too bad, but do you have lighter armor that has enchantment...perhaps some studded leather?

He looks at the group. "I could use those arrows....may come in handy." He looked back. "Don't sell the shot swords....i'm considering trading my double axe for them. Handier in close quarters. Perhaps Lyrian could use them as well."

Roywin looks around not hoping to find anything that fits her.
"I would trade if you have some finely crafted daggers or light crossbows. Do you have anything like this?"
She smiles as she hopes something like this is available.

OoC: masterwork light crossbow or dagger would be interesting for Roywin, although a wizard should never use weapons :)

"If yer willing tah trade that there banded mail, I might have somethin' that fits yer fancy. An' willing tah give yah the arrows. My armor an' arrows fer the mail." The dwarf pulls out from behind a set of studded leather armor. Its got a thin layer of dust but he wipes it off and puts it down on the counter. The dwarf wathes the mage pick up one of the crossbows they brought in and askes him about it and he shrugs "Whatcha want to know bout it? That be yers. Yer a odd ball eh? You put that there bolt in it, aim an' shoot it. Nothin' fancy. So yer want to trade something yer own fer...?" He gives her a odd look like 'what?'. He crosses his arms "Like I said I'm interested in that there masterwork weapons an' the magic ones. Sounds like yer want to keep the short swords. Alright then."

The half orc looked to the others for any argument, and if none came, he nodded.
"Agreed friend...the banded mail for this studded leather and the arrows."

The half orc tried to look cool at the trade as if it was nothing, but in truth, even though the armor was covered in dust, he could tell it was far superior to his own. The armor held him more enthralled than the arrows....the dark grey leather with high quality seeming, the hexagonal studs of dull silver, the armor was beautiful.

"What about we trade two of our masterwork longswords for a masterwork light crossbow and a masterwork dagger? Would that be interesting to you? Not sure if you have such items, but if you do I'm happy to trade."
She smiles trying to make a deal.

Rubbing his chin, he goes around the area checking to see what else he has available. He grabs a dagger and a light crossbow, better made then the ones they brought into the smithy and puts them down "Light crossbows are a bit of work but I have one available. Seems like the elf is interested as well. Up to yah who gets it but for two masterwork longswords for this here light crossbow and dagger...." He ponders it for a moment, watching the gnome "Alright alright. Accepted." He takes the two longswords and pushes the crossbow and dagger to the group.

Coping the dwarf, and with the same tone Tai repeats "Alright alright accepted." The kenku keeps sitting, watching what is going on out of curiousity. Repeating the half-orc, same tone he responds "Don't sell the short swords." He repeats out again the same as the gnome "Finaly crafted daggers."

Lyrian selected a crossbow from those they'd found, and took a good number of bolts from those they'd found to go with it.  With hobgoblins and manticores about, they were going to need stronger weapons all the way around.

She waits until Roywin is free from her bargaining and comments in a low voice, "It seems the town is very worried that anything could set the hobgoblins on the offensive. But I worry about going straight to the keep, particularly if we can't find a safe way to approach. I'm not well-trained in being sneaky; I was in the circus, you see, and I was more used to standing out than blending in. I could be sneaky if I had to, but it's not my best skill.  And most of the others are not very sneaky at all.  Is there magic that can look from a distance and see what the best way to approach would be?  I'm only a novice in the Art."

Gar, having made the trade, thanked the shop owner and waited outside, replacing his old armor with the new studded leather, and in his quiver, separating the arrows so he knew which was which in a fight.

When the others came out, he was leaning against a wall, arms crossed.

"Now what?"

"I suggest we check with the surrounding settlements in case there is any other village that would join with some men to fight. If we find some scouts while doing so we could capture and interrogate them."
She looks thoughtful.
"Direct confrontation would be to dangerous so better to find as many allies as possible, but eroding their lines while doing so it's not something to avoid either. What do you think?"
When she has some time agreed like to visit the druid circle.

SHRINE OF PELOR (GAR/LANDOR)
A small temple of the same fieldstone-and-wood construction used by many buildings in the town, the shrine is in the care of Brother Derry. When they enter, he is by the alter with two acolytes who help him tend to the shrine and look after the folk of Drellin's Ferry. He looks over and smiles <blue>"Welcome brother. Do you need aid? We do have need of ones of faith and sent word out to several places. Cornell, Tho'Rin, Blasingdell..."</blue:

THE OLD ONES (DRUID GROVE-ROY/LYR/TAI)
A small clearing in the woods on the west bank of the Elsir holds a old circle of small methirs known as 'the Old Ones' by the towns folk. The circle has long served as a druidic sacred place and the druid Avarthel now tends to it. He sits in the middle of the circle, talking to a few others. Glancing up, he stands as well as the others "Greetings."

"Thank you sir. We are here to try to stop them and make them go back to whereever they came from."
She tries to be diplomatic in her words.
"I understand that you have a great convention with this land as protector, and you already feel that it has been tainted by their presence. We'd like to know if you have recognised any other evil force within the goblins. Any evil force commanding them. We will eventually have to confront them, and information of this kind would be highly valuable when the moment comes."
She chats a little bit more with the druid, and thanks him for the items he sells. She'll let the rest know in case they want to buy any, as she does not have money herself.
