The young cleric exclaims, "Ahhaa! You filthy beast! Take this!" and wildly swings once more at the rat that bit her, missing it once again.

Whether by divine providence or the hardiness brought on by a life of service, she also proves too healthy for disease to take root in her body.

The rat attacks the wizard, doing little damage to him just as Fenris stabs the rat killing him. He grunts and turns looking at the injured woman.

"Is everyone functional?" Ballast asks, and turns to look at Brankx and Cumarinda.  "I saw the rats attack you; are you wounded?"

Not finding anything, the barbarian goes to the next door. He grunts, glancing at the others and lowers his sword as he waits.

In reply to Ballast (msg # 470):

Cumarinda examines her wound and that of Brankx. "For me, its nothing that a little water and a good nights rest won't cure. I am fully functional." she says with a smile, dismissive of her own injury.

Looking to the dwarf she asks, "That looks like it might slow you down a bit great mage, shall I tend to it for you?"

The dwarf winces at the wound, smiling at the priest. "That would be appreciated girlie....that rat took quite a chunk outa me.'

With her ever-present smile, the young cleric casts a quick spell and cures the dwarf's wounds. "There, that should take care of that nasty bite." she adds in a motherly tone after the spell's healing takes effect.

Brankx watched as the chunk of flesh healed over a little, slowing the bleeding, allowing the mage to issue a sigh. "Thank ye....that will keep mne goin' fer a bit."

the dwarf hobbled a little, but followed on

Catching up to the stoic barbarian, Cumarinda quickly examines him for wounds as they proceed. "Fenris, are you hurt?" she asked him kindly.

The warrior shakes his head and even if he was hurt-he'd throw dirt in it.

Dirt alwauys helps right?

He goes to open the door, opposite of Ballast once everyone is good and the door is opened slowly. Another nest but this one is bigger about 20x20. Barrels line the walls, some are open and some are closed. Bottles look like they were on the top shelf but looks like it was toppled over and some are smashed. There's another door as well.

Ballast brings his sword into position and swings his barnacle-covered shield to cover as many as the people behind him as he can.  "Two armed rat-people with swords and crossbows right across the room!" he calls out.  And then charges across the room with thunderous intent!

Fenris goes to the other side and attacks! He rips into one of them and it drops but remains alive!

Brankx opens his eyes wide. "damn big rats!" he mutters as he immediately behind casting a spell to help his warforged friend. With him so close, his best option was the arcane bolts popular with most magic users.

He held his hand, palm up and chanted, causing a blue-purple glowing energy to manifest and grow. When he finished, the energy flew for the weather, splitting in two and creating either side of the warforged to strike it

Frowning, Cumarinda glances at the rodent of unusual size then back towards the still wounded dwarf wizard. "Pelor knows that I will never forgive myself if I let this beast bring you down, Brankx. So I will bring you back to full health." With that she cast a spell of healing upon him.

Torn between the desire to see the attacking monster defeated, and the new wound caused by the rat creature's blade on Fenris, she hesitates.

The rat creature falls to the ground, dead. Fenris growls and slams his sword a few times to make sure they are totally dead. He grunts and kneels down to check what they have.

Brankx, fully healed thanks to the priestess second healing spell, looks at her. "Thank ye girl....i feel much better"

He walks over to the rats and spits at their corpses. he looks at Fenris and nods. "Fer once Fenris, i agree with ye on that one." he looked at the gear, and picked up a crossbow and some bolts. "No wonder they feared comin' in here....damn wererats!"

he looked at the others. "Lets get this done....we gotta find tgh' mage yet"

"A moment," Ballast says, and picks up the note to read it.

Looking over the dead wererat, Cumarinda shook her head and then looked over to Fenris. Quietly she resolved that despite his habit of spreading dirt into his wounds, she would use her next Pelor-given cure spell on him in the next battle.

After gathering up the remaining bolts, she started to reach for the note but was preempted by Ballast. "If you don't mind, Ballast, I would like to get a look at the note too. But by all means, read it first so we can all hear it."

Ballast cannot furrow his brow, but his voice is worried as he speaks, "The sahuagain hired the rats to infest the storage area.  That at least explains the sudden arrival, but what do the rats gain?  Food?  For certain that would run out quickly enough."  He passes the note over to Cumarinda's inspection.

The dwarf furrowed his brow in thought. "Those bloodyt water demons are up ter somethin'....damn me wish i knew whatr they were thinkin'"

the dwarf tapped his chin, thinking. "They wanted them to keep people out....there's somethin' here, or i'm a bearded gnome"

"Rats eat anything." The barbarian grunts. He then goes about checking the area, leaving anything found on the bodies of the wererats.

"Perhaps there is else the water devils wanted the rat people to infest.  They are not cleanly.  If these are the stores for the village, for certain most of them are fouled.  And there is yet something here that can cause the guards to drop into unconsciousness.  Did... they let something out?" Ballast speculates.
