Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

"Very well.  I shall see you soon," he says, and steps into the water, glowing shield at the ready.  He will climb down if it is needed, and walk along the bottom of the flooded tunnel, alert for any movement or anything unusual.

The warrior stands near the doorway and waits for anything to happen. He doesn't look happy, not even remotely.

Brankx looks at Fenris, in his bad mood at the delay. "Would ye rather a swarm of those fishy bastards sneak up o' us? Best ter check...even if it takes a bit. I can tell ye i'd rather know it's clear."

He looks down the passage. "I'm not happy 'bout the big guy goin' on his own though."

Cumarinda manages a slight smile as she speaks with the others, "I know that we'd all rather be down there with Ballast watching his back. But since none of us can do without breathing air like he can, we can't go places where he can. Besides, I'm sure that he will be back soon."

She brings her hands together, bows her head, and closes her eyes as she prays "Great Sun Father, look upon us with your favor and bless Ballast as he goes forth to do good and fight evil. In your name I pray Lord Pelor."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The barbarian stares at the cleric who seems to be talking to herself. Ballast isn't here. So why is she putting a blessing on him? Apprently he doesn't really grasp the concept.

About two hours pass by. Three hours. Movement comes up from the cavern below.

Ballast makes his way up to them, but its tough. He stands there, drenched.

Ballast lets himself drain for a moment, shaking out any extra water over the hole if he can.  "The passage leads out to a beach, somewhere away from the village.  I saw no tracks, islands, ships, or signs of habitation.  Perhaps the sea devils come from the sea into this passage, but if that is the case, I saw nothing recent.  Nor did I see any side passages."

Cumarinda walks up to Ballast and says a heartfelt, "Thank you for making that journey for us. Now that we know where it goes can follow your earlier idea and block it off for now, using these barrels and baskets to warn us if someone attempts to come through."

Looking to the others she continues, "When we leave we'll tell the mayor and the rest about the waterway so they can do something more permanent about it. For now, lets move on, we've spent enough time here."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The barbarian seems to be angered or upset. He doesn't argue with the dwarf which is odd and seems distant from the others. Course that seems ordinary for him but he just seems more distant. After putting some barrels and anything they can use to try to block up the area for now, and locking the door they head back to the main area and to see the mayor who is standing outside the inn, speaking to a few others.

The mayor motions them over "The guard wants to press charges on him but I know you are trying to help. So what caused the comatose guard? I have been getting the other townspeople to watch the areas. We have a small wall but the guards have not seen anyone come in or leave. We need to build the walls up but we need to repair the crystal." He seems worried.

"We have not yet discovered the cause for the illness.  There were large rats and rat people in the storage area, which we dispatched, though many supplies were ruined.  There was also a passage that led underwater to a distant beach, which may be how the sea devils were sneaking in.  But there were some parts of the storage area I don't believe we have fully examined yet," Ballast says to the mayor.

The dwarf nods as Ballast talks, and adds his part when finished. "Th rats or rat people could have had a pite t5hat had a disease or poison thaqt caused th' comat5osed man....but without time this is just a guess. I am also guessin' ye want us to get th' crystal fixed as soon as possible. My advice....get a group of ye guards and seal t5hat room...even if ye board up that room's door. Those water demons are behind this, or i'm a bearded gnome!"

"I will see that the storage area is contained. If I must it will be burned down and a new location will be made to avoid any further Sahuagin and rat people attacking us from within." The mayor nods his head "And I will have the rest of the storage area checked as I know what we may go up against. I thank you. And of course you can rest within the tavern."

It does seem to be getting cold every hour.

As the group is talking to the mayor, it seems the barbarian is gone.

The dwarf nods his thanks to the mayor then looks around with a stern look on his face. "First the damn rogue disappears, now the damn elf decides to take a walk!" The dwarf, clearly agitated, throws his hands up in the air. "Damn fool too stubborn fer his own good."

\He looks at Ballast and Cumarinda. "It's gettin' cold.  lets rest then leave in th' morn and find this mage."

Ballast shrugs. "If they do not want the storage area completely cleared, then that is fine. The mage and the crystal seem to be more important for the long-term health of the village anyway.  Brankx, if you have time in the future, this shield I found seems to have some kind of magic in it, perhaps. If you could determine its nature at some point, I would be grateful."

Ballast will stand watch over the inn while the others sleep, carving little boats to while away the hours.

Cumarinda will heal those who have any wounds left before eating, resting and praying for her spells for the next day. She will thank Brankx for identifying the unknown magic items and for sharing the knowledge he gains from his efforts.

Two hours before they gather to continue on to seek Lars Hayton the mage who may know more about the crystals that protect the village, Cumarinda will look for any sign of Fenris if he has not returned by that time.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

After at least a day, the mage is able to get all his spells back and cast what he needs to cast upon the items. Food, drink and sleep are all provided and they are left alone. But there is no sign of the barbarian. No one saw him at all. And its getting colder every moment. A bit of frost covers the area outside.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The dwarf stretched after his long night of identifying items, study and finally sleep, and though it was a busy night, he was rested enough.  He held the three items in his hand as he met the group.

"Some nice stuff here. Ballast....this shield may suit ye needs. It holds a minor magical enchantment makin' it lighter and stronger, but also helps with th' effects of cold....an' given th' weather may be useful."

He holds up the bracers. "these Offer a semblance of protection fer th' wearer. Common amongst spellcasters.  If no one objects, i would like these."

The final item, a Dark blue stone, he smiles. "Now this stone is more than a gem. It makes ye senses sharper and floats above or near ye. Never seen an Ioun stone, but heard o' their powers."

Cumarinda's habitual smile faltered for a moment as she addressed the remaining members of the party. "I have seen Fenris in a dream and I believe he will join us when we need him most."

She paused again her smile returning before she spoke again, "I know what we have been asked to do is for the greater good and I always welcome ideas and direction from anyone in our group. Please feel free to speak up if you think of something I haven't or that I might be doing something wrong. With that being said, are we ready to go forward and find the mage that can save this village?"

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The dwarf waved a hand and snorted at the healer. "Pay the pointy eared princess no heed lass...he lives fer his emotions. They mostly be anger, but i don't doubt his heart....he is a warrior, loyal to his friends" He turns, shouldering his pack as he straps the bracers on his arms, muttering. "..Somewhat think-headed fer an elf, but friend none th' less"

He looks at the woman with a smile. "I be an unusual Dwarf lass, not many claim the magical arts in my race, just like Fenris and his wild nature....but we know our places. You, me girl, have come to us as a voice o' reason and a arm against undead. Ye voice is welcome, as is ye wisdom."

Despite the dwarf's bluster, he seemed a little more cheerful this morning, if not a little tired...and this wasn't entirely from the magical items.

While studying, he went over the trip to date, how Fenris irritated him, how people left, and how his spells seemed to last only a little time (Despite being effective).

In this frustration, he felt the crumbling of a mental block....wether the need to protect his friends, or just the sheer frustration at himself, but in his spellbook, something his mentor had finally made sense.

he attained a higher level of magic.

This excited the dwarf, being able to use and test new magic spells, and this trip, if it was as half as dangerous as the rest of this island jaunt had been (Which he suspected it would), that would come all too soon

Once everything is said and done, the tavern is quiet. The keep grumbles as he puts some ale mugs away as the group comes down. It seems like hes the only person in the inn besides the mayor who walks in "So all set? I was able to get each of you some warmer clothing. Ad here is a map of the island, least where we have been and the location of the ruins where I think the mage is residing. There is also some areas I am not sure of but they are marked. Here and here." He points out a area close by, some distance off and another in a mountinaus region. He points out in the upper area "Misery's Peak. Few went up there, none returned. Probably the place where the dragon lurks. Top of the island."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

When Brankx woke, he was still in a good mood after his realizations of the previous night. He came down with his pack and staff and ordered a simple warm meal.

He saw the mayor and sat at the table

Brankx, in all the excitement of what had happened since arriving, had forgotten about the dragon. He wondered on something then....could there be a link between the white dragon and the coldness if this island?

He let the thoughts slip. a thought for anothet time, he thought to himself.

He took the map, looking at the locations and nodded. "We get  decent meal then leave fer the ruins...look fer this mage. these other places we will look if need be, but he is our main goal here."
