(IC) The Village of Korthos

The barbarian comes around a corner, with two rabbits around his neck. He grunts, finds a small well and grabs the bucket after he fills it. He throws it over his face and hands which are both covered in blood.

(IC) The Village of Korthos

Having gone to the home of the family of Pelor believers where she was lodging and gathering her gear, the young fire headed woman returned to the tavern.

The bright smile she was wearing fades slightly when she sees the pool of blood and water at Fenris' feet. An expression of concern crosses her face and she asks, "Are you hurt, Fenris?" Then she notices the rabbit 'necklace', his wet hair and clothing. "Oh, I see, the blood and water...from the rabbits."

An expression of curiosity crossed her face as she started to ask another question, but was interrupted by the arrival of Brankx and Fin.

With the rabbits strung around his neck, he grunts and walks over to the cleric. Oddly, he goes to place his hands on her face if allowed."Food. You eat?" Odd. He tilts his head as he watches her. Strange indeed. He glances at the dwarf "Not hurt. Rabbits."

In reply to Fenris (msg # 43):

With a smile, Cumarinda allows the barbarian to touch her face. "Yes, I do eat. I cook too. I enjoy food as a blessing. I will prepare them for you if you wish, Fenris." she says as she gently caresses the back of his hands.

Brankx looks at the interaction between Fenris and the Cleric with a slight smile on his face. Then when Fenris addresses Brankx, he nods. "Fear a second I thought you went to clean th' crypts out yerself. Glad am I to see Ye."  He sighs, then looks at the three. "Now that Ye have dinner, do Ye want to rest th' night or go to th' crypts and start gettin' to th' bottom of what's in there?"

"Yeah, yeah ... he's fine," Fin grinned sheepishly at Fenris.  "You're right, Brankx, I should have known better than to be concerned about him."

"As for me, I'd still prefer something to eat and waking up anywhere but face down on a beach after a few hours' sleep."

"If you wish to go now, I am ready. However, I would advise having a meal before going off into the darkness." the young cleric observes cheerfully in a calm voice.

"Go now. Eat later." The barbarian grunts and pulls his hands slowly from the cleric's cheeks. He does blush which is odd and heads towards the tomb, with the squirrels over his side. Odd man.

The dwarf, looked Ng at fin with a shrug, smiles. "Seems most of us are eager ter see what's down there. So let's go and take a look at what's down there."

With the consensus for now, the dwarf again shoulders his pack and grabs his staff. "To th' crypts it is then"

"Well, since we seem to be heading for the tomb, I only ask that we gather at the door before going inside. I hope that is not too much to ask. May Pelor's light bless our steps."The cleric nods.

The cleric of Pelor was inwardly confused, she pondered possible reasons why the elven barbarian would be blushing. Her experiences while living and serving at her home temple simply hadn't prepared her for the variety of people in the world. Then again, that was one reason she'd been sent out, to gain more worldly knowledge.

She paused for a moment seeming to study the retreating back of the barbarian, then quickly followed the others as they headed for the tomb.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The tombs are dark and gloomy. They enter and stop as they see a gate that is closed. They can make out a hallway built into the earth that goes off to the right.

Walking up to the gate, Fin scowled slightly.  "Isn't that interesting?" he asked no one in particular as he started to examine the gate.  "Cumarinda, is having a gate at the entrance to a tomb or mausoleum a custom in this area?" he asked while searching.

With a perky and insistent smile, she replied, "I will be happy to answer your question Fin after we seek the blessings of Pelor. Everyone, please bow your heads silently while I recite a short prayer."

"Great Pelor, life-giving god of the Sun, please bathe us in your loving and purifying rays and bless us as we delve into the darkness to bring light." she intoned with reverence.

Afterward, she turned towards Fin and answered, "Yes, for those families that can afford them, it is common to gate such places."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The dwarf looks at the gate and tomb with a sniff. His kind commonly used the earth for last rites, but the way human's buried their dead was a pale comparison to his kin.

....still, they were young compared to dwarves.

He stands silently as Cumarinda mutters her prayer, his eye looking around, but staying silent....the dwarf favoured logic over faith, such was the life of a wizard, but he knew that each person had their place and beliefs, and he knew priestly magic had it's place.

Once the priest finished her prayer, he spoke. "My kin live by the earth, so it's no suprise we return to it. Your human rites confuse me at times girl, but i'll give ye this, ye respect th' dead."

He nodded, then looked at Fenris. "After you."

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The rogue nodded silently as the cleric recited her prayer.  I must remember to ask her about this Pelor, he thought to himself as she spoke.  He's not a part of the Sovereign Host pantheon, perhaps a regional deity?

"My point in asking about the gate," he continued, "is a simple curiosity:  are the gates used to keep unscrupulous grave robbers from plundering whatever riches might be within ... or to keep the deceased interred where they belong?"

Fin stepped aside to allow Fenris a path to go ahead.

Tilting his head as the cleric prays, the elf waits. He then grunts when done and goes to go through the gate. He grabs it and gives it a hard pull, almost breaking it off the hinges. The man shrugs, glancing back at the others.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Cumarinda looks at Fin patiently and explains, “There are other reasons, such a gate would allow successive generations to have their remains interred with their family without violating the tomb itself. This is in addition to protecting the few valuables buried with those inside.”

She tenses slightly and frowns as she continues, "Only under the evilest circumstances could anyone imagine their beloved dead rising from their places of rest.”

After a momentary flash of anger, she clings to her holy symbol and silently enters the tomb behind Fenris.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

Fin sensed he had touched upon a delicate subject with the cleric and simply nodded that he understood what she had said.  Having only know Cumarinda less than an hour, he decided to be silent so as not to upset her further.  After all, he thought, who wants to stroll through a tomb without a priestess close at hand?

Unshouldering his short bow, he held the weapon in his left hand as he followed the others into the first chamber.

Re: (IC) The Village of Korthos

The barbarian heads forwards with the others. Its a cavern with some torches here and there as the group keeps moving. It shifts and heads to the east down a set of stairs. Stopping in his tracks, Fenris looks around before going down the set of stairs but shakes his head and keeps moving. To the north and to the south end. The south seems to slant downwars but the north does the same thing.

The cleric looks back and forth between both downward sloping ends. She steps forward to just behind Fenris and asks in a soft voice, "Which way do you think we should go? If someone were to ask me, I'd say we should go north."
