(IC) Prequel: Lorelei Stargazer

Its been some time when Lorelei wasn't busy. No one needs her aid. Nothing seems out of place and there's a party that has caught her attention in the main square for the people of this city. Their queen unfortunatly could not attend nor their king but a variety of wagons and stores line the area. Everyone seems to be in a festive mood.  A well lies in the center with a wagon near it. Sitting down on it is a older woman selling her food to a small girl. The girl smiles and goes to give her a money from her dirty hands. Her face is covered in dirt and the woman doesn't take it but wipes the dirt from her face.  She sits down on the well, eating the food and acts like its the best thing in the world!

Several more people dance around with a bard and some singers playing some music. Fireworks fire out from a nearbye building. It seems like its a amazing night.

Lorelei frowns. Is this truly a celebration? She walks forward, leading her horse and her fox following. The fox is on a lead, as he tends to wander, but he too is interested.

Lorelei looks around, then casts Detect Magic, wondering if this is truly a natural celebration. Her mind chastises her, wondering if she is simply reading too much into it. But the other part says that no older woman cleans a child's face and takes no money. Or the child loves what is offered in such a manner. Not to say she wouldn't do it, but she is a bit cynical. She doesn't trust that others adhere to the beliefs she does, where you give to receive. And so she casts. And watches.

"Seeker, I am worried. And my worry is what worries me. Why is everyone so happy?"

Her fox does not answer, for she cannot. But still, the fox picks up her worry, and so she is worried too.

Nothing picks up as magic but the gyspy wagon has some within. Nothing seems out of place and the fox just shrugs as he looks around. Everyone in sight seems happy and content. The gypsy pulls out some apples for anyone who wants them as well. Several other children laugh and play. Some of the adults sits and catch up. Most are eating and drinking. The little girl keeps eating and smiling.

Lorelei looks at her fox, then shrugs as well. "I don't be thinkin' that much is amiss just because yon folk are happy," she states with a sigh. "Mayhap it has been long since I was, and I be assumin' that others are as suspicious as I. Well, we might as well join them, hadn't we?"

Walking her horse, she walked up to the Gypsy. "Good day to thee. I am a stranger here, and am most set aback by yon gaiety. What is the occasion, if thou might say?"

"Oh hello. No reason. Everyone picks a day, the king and queen agree upon it and it turns into a festival. Not often it occurs but helps to boost up moral. Always a good thing." The woman offers an apple to the witch and smiles "Would you like your future told? Free tonight." She pulls out a small table from the side of the cart.

The little girl finishes and looks around, still smiling. She stands up, as the fox looks up at the gyspy and then goes to check out all that is going on.

Lorelei giggled. "Prithee Madam, I am a fortune teller mine own self. But if thou dost wish to tell mine, I cannot say nay. Dost thou need my hand? Or dost thou use something else?"

"I know many things. And yes, let me see both of your hands." The woman pulls out a stack of cards and lays them down in front of her.

Lorelei could barely hide her amusement. It was so different to be on this side of a reading. But she looked at the cards with interest, and watched how she looked at her hands, which were delicate for one who did not look like nobility. Indeed, Lori used lotion on them daily.

"I be most curious what thou can tell me. I have told a fortune many, but I have truly never had on of mine own."

Indeed, she was both curious and very excited. What would she learn? She turned her head and whispered to Seeker to come to her and sit, for the fox needed to be close just in case.

The gypsy shuffles the deck and places them down between Lorelei and herself. She takes the hands for a moment, examines them and releases slowly.  The gypsy five cards and lays them out. They are different then the ones the fortune teller has, different pictures. Her eyes narrow and she looks up at her then down to the cards "I see Darkness then the Light. Dark and light. Sun and moon. I do not understand this. Perhaps its about your views. Good and evil? Positive and negative? Perhaps you will fall into the darkness and you will be brought back to the light. Now this one sparks my interest. A romance card. Fleeting but there. And the last..." She flips open the card.

The woman looks at it for a moment and places it down "Perhaps someone close to you had perished? A close friend or relative? It does not mean it will be you yet it could be."

Lorelei watched the process, feeling a chill go through her. This was quite unlike how she told fortunes, as the woman asked nothing of her, only interpreted the cards. Did she have true sight?

"I... have no one close to me, no one but Seeker here. No family. So knowest not who might have died. And I am most certainly not dead."

She contemplated the others. Romance? That was a general telling. And Darkness and Light? Sun and Moon?

"Dear Madam, I doth fear that I know not what this means. Canst thou... Look deeper?"

"The cards could have several meanings, you do know this do you not? Perhaps physically you are not deceased but your soul could be. Perhaps your views are like sun and moon. One day you view things as what they are, others the negative. Or the positive. Sun and moon, light and dark. Close your eyes my dead. Yes. Names mean many things. What you are called does not mean your name. Title perhaps. Come now, close your eyes. Deep breath." The woman waits.

A slight blush came to her face. Of course she should know these things!

"Names mean many things..." she whispered. "Aye, that verily is true..."

She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, and then another. She opened her mind, only briefly wondering what she would find...

The little girl tugs on the witch's dress and holds up an apple for her! She smiles at Lorelei and seems excited. The witch shakes her head at her antics and looks at the witch "Might want to take it. She loves apples so doesn't give them away easily." Leaning forwards, she watches the witch for a moment "Perhaps the darkness is tonight and light will be tommorow. Many things it could be."

The ground seems to move beneath them like a earthquake. The table is flipped up into the cart and the woman falls to the ground. The little girl went from being exited to being petrified, standing there like a statue.

Lorelei briefly opened her eyes to the little girl and smiled, taking the apple. She closed them again and started to relax again... when the world suddenly turned upside down.

With a cry, she fell down, still holding the apple, opening her eyes again. She saw the girl frozen in fear and the Gypsy laying beneath the table. Seeker was nestled against her instantly, fear in the fox's eyes. The fear matched the look in Lori's eyes too. What was happening?

The ground shifted in all directions! Several people fall down. Some go into buildings. The wagon skitters back and forth and the wall seems to almost sink into the ground! The little girl starts to cry, and the gypsy gives her a stuff bear to try and calm her. But then the ground seems to fall apart from beneath the witch! She starts to fall downwards, the wagon startng to fall down the hole as well as the woman and the girl. Then Lorelei passes out as her legs and arms slam into the ground as she keeps falling.

Lorelei feels the life being drawn from her. A bright light comes before her revealing a odd glow. Brightest the human had ever seen. Her body seems to get healed! Yet when she awakens....

She's in a unknown forest.

End of Prequel!
