(IC) Helgan: Execution

The lizardfolk is slammed into the ground as the others are pulled out by Imperial guards. Everyone is bound and gagged. They are place in a straight line. One of the Imperials jots something down and goes to each one, pulling the gagged from their mouths. Everyone is bruised and batttered but nothing serious. One of them, a Stormcloak is brought over to the Executioner. He is slammed hard, head upon a small stone with a bucket. The executioner brings up his large axe and comes down hard, slicing off his head! It falls forwards, missing the bucket and rolls down to the argonians feet. When the beast goes to stand, it is immediatly pushed down. It growls but comes off as a mutated grunt. The Imperial jots down something else and shakes his head. One of the Stormcloaks wearing a different outfit is taken away for some reason by four Imperials to a different area out of sight. Another Stormcloak is pulled over to the Imperial, perhaps a scribe "Name?" His mouth binding is removed "Rolof of Riverwood." The name is jotted down "You are sentenced to death by General Tullius upon the death of several Imperials. What do you plead?" The Stormcloak stares at him. The Imperial nods his head and his mouth binding is placed back up. Rolof bites down upon it and the Executioner waits as one of the guards brings him over to him. He is relentlessly pushed down and beaten and his head is place upon the stone pillar.

Among the throng of prisoners was yet another Nord youth, one side of his face still dirty from where he had been pinned and bound. It had done him no favors that he resembled some of the Stormcloaks among their number, being typically tall, blond and muscular. But where they wore the distinctive rebel tartan in some fashion or another, this one wore a poorer cloth, an undyed woolen homespun in the great kilt style, and some simple foot wraps, filthy and covered in the leaf litter of the forest.

In one other way he was also set apart from the Nordic contingent of their unhappy lot, and that was his youth. While a man full grown, his beard was thin, his skin still unblemished and pale, his eyes still wide and bright.

It was obvious that he had never seen anything like an execution before, and he stared openly over his gag at the vast quantity of fresh blood and the meat of the severed neck. His breathing was faster now and he looked around with an increasingly wild expression. The situation was fast becoming more real and more desperate by the second, and while he did not quite look manic, he seemed to search in vain for some way out, some miracle, that might spare them from such a terrible fate.

Doch kneeled, how had his actions merited this response, was he to be beheaded like an ox at the butcher's for shoving one mewling whelp.
He was bigger than any of the Imperials here, he reckoned were he free he could easily take any two of them in a fair fight, maybe even any three if he didnt plan to survive it. This thought made him chuckle to himself. To survive in battle and die on the block there was a dark irony to it.

He bowed his head lower and thought to himself, Lady of Valor give me today a chance at redemption and I will live a just life, I will protect the weak and redeem the evil. He squeezed one of his nails into his palm until he felt the warm wet blood, it was just a scratch but he hoped it would be enough, Lady of Valor by my blood I swear this oath, let me live this day and I will tread your path.

To any watching other than the unsettling laughter he seemed nothing more than a recalcitrant prisoner making his peace. Even if that prisoner was over 6 feet tall and looked like he could have pulled the wagon here himself.

Whitepaw looked into the distance.  It's white eyes open wide and clear.
It's ears pricked up and listening.  It's nose twitched and was taking in the smells around.
The smell of blood and death.
A smell Whitepaw reflected was all to common to The Cat.

Whitepaw was at last free of the bandit camps and that brutal way of life.
It was only to be replace by another group of blade wearing brutal killers.

The Oracle looked further into mid space.
Well unlike the others around Whitepaw, The Cat would die with a full belly and good last meal.
The Oracle had a liking for venison, potatoes and cauliflower.  With gravy.
Not really a normal Khajit meal but then Whitepaw was not a normal Khajit.

The Cat also reflected this was not the first time the Khajit had been bound and was looking at it's dream meal thinking it was it's last.

OOC:
Just remember I a Khajit and an Oracle.  You expect me to make much sense? he he.

Emelia was at the culmination of the worst string of days of her life.  Her family was dead as far as she knew, then she made the mistake of killing that soldier in reflex as she the undead she thought were chasing her and her fear didn't let her realize she had run into a living person.  They had beat her unconscious without letting her even try to explain.  The next few days were a blur of pain and fear as they occasionally beat her some more still not listening.

The ride to her execution was almost a relief for Emelia, she wasn't being beaten, and she hoped that she would at least get the chance to plead for mercy.  She was willing to do anything they asked if they would commute her sentence.  She'd service the whole barracks if it would get her out of this.  The sight of the first prisoner's head rolling, unfortunately, made her think it wouldn't matter what she said or offered but she knew she would try if she could.

In reply to Emelia Jerod (msg # 5):

The lone Dunmer amongst the Imperial captors, and Nord prisoners stood out. Not only for his dark, charcoal colored skin and stark white hair, but also for his good looks. One could tell he was handsome even under the gag. His features we not as gaunt, sharp, and severe as most Dunmer. He had been blessed with a cut jaw and intense red eyes. His severed head would be a pretty one as would the women's next to him, he noted.

It was a shame, she looked young, the big Nord lad as well. He couldn't tell in the case of the Orsimer, the Khajiit, and Argonian; didn't get a good enough look at them past the big Nord. At least Amaranth had lived an interesting life. He'd traveled from Solstheim to Dragonstar to Daggerfall. He'd even seen the great monuments of the Imperial City in Cyrodiil. He'd been a nirnroot farmer. An interesting life, too much of it spent in tedium and mediocrity.

He sighed into the gag. He stood to his full height, over six feet, and stood in denial of his own mortality even as his scarlet eyes settled on the rolling head of the Imperials' last victim.

The argonian tries to fight through his bindings but he stops as he's surrounded by the Imperials. Kas curls up, trying to make himself look as harmless as he can, but his eyes dart from one creature to the next. His eyes fall on the sorceress for a moment then dart over to the others. Despite trying to be small, the lizardfolk is definatly big so to speak.  His body is covered in scales. Some seems to have been chipped off and covered in blood but it doesn't seem to really be his own. Or her own. Its hard to tell what gender it really is.

The executioner raises his large axe up high and goes to swing it but suddenly a massive wing creature flies down. It lets out a massive shreeking sound, and the Imperial falls down. He stands back up, looking like he got hit by something! Several Imperials start firing at the dragon! Rolof gets the muffle off and is able to reach the axe while the man seems out of it. He gets the bindings off his hands and runs over to the ones being held, taking off their bindings and tells them to follow him as he runs over to a small tower!

Whitepaw moves his head around seeming confused and trying to understand what happening.  The Cat smells something he never smelt before and is perplexed.

Once Rolof cuts his binding Whitepaw says.
Thankyou.
Then follows the human without another word.

As Amaranth is freed, he goes to the next person to get their bonds off as well if needed. Not before getting his gag off, of course. He might need his voice. Despite his urgency in moving to follow Rolof, he could not help but spare a glance skyward at the dragon that had swooped in from the heavens...or more likely, judging by it's fears ok me countenance, from hell.

The young Nord stared up in abject awe as the unfamiliar sound resolved itself into the beating of enormous leathery wings. With his hands still bound behind his back, his mouth agape, he witnessed their terrifying benefactor as he threw their world into sound and chaos.

He staggered on his feet, ran, fell to the ground on his chest, and was helped up by Rolof during their mad dash for safety.

He found himself unbound, hands throbbing painfully as the blood worked their way back into them, and suddenly even the sturdy stone tower seemed a fragile thing compared to the fury of whatever was happening outside.

He looked up and around at the sky, the tower, and at their rag tag band of prisoners as they ran for their lives.

The lizardfolk gets unbound. It snaps and snarls, glancing at the elf that freed it. Kas raises a hand up as the dragon seems to attack the Imperials. Still hissing, the argonian jumps at the excutioner, tearing and biting into flesh. Blood pours down from his mouth and then moves after Rolof leaving the axe behind him.

It was as the boy was looking about wildly at the chaos that he saw the brutal attack on the executioner by the Argonian  prisoner. While it was again obvious that he had never beheld anything of the sort before, he saw the Imperial struggle in vain to fend off the assault with the axe he had used to behead the previous prisoner. He also saw the weapon fall from the mans hands into the mud where the Argonian seemed content to leave it.

In a sudden burst of speed the Nord youth dashed over and snatched up the axe by the balance, still spattered in blood and soil before he redirected to follow the Stormcloak and the group as a whole.

Emelia watched as yet another prisoner was forced down onto the block for execution.  She watched the axe go up and then saw something she had never expected.  A great winged lizard had landed and roared at the headsman, the sound so fierce it knocked him over and Emelia saw the captive get his muzzle off and quickly run towards them.

Emelia started to shrink away from the man when he came for her but she realized what he was doing and didn't resist.  After being freed she didn't hesitate, Emelia began to run for the tower as she was instructed.  Her pace was a bit broken from the injuries she'd suffered while a prisoner but she didn't let that slow her down much.  She wanted as far away from the dragon and guards as she could get and she wanted it right the hell now!

The odd assortment of adventurers move towards the small tower. With a howl the dragon exhales a blast of flame at several Imperials, torching them and then it flies off in a different area. Part of the tower is destroyed as the dragon flies down above, using its intense flames. They get to the door but find it is locked. Rolof looks around for a opening and heads towards a side entrance to the main keep seeing as most of the Imperials are dealing with the dragon and some other escaped prisoners. He slams against the door and its open. The Nord gets inside and motions for the others to do the same, shutting the door behind the last. He takes a breather, sitting down on the floor. There are two ways to go-the right to a closed door and the left is a gated door "Now that we got a moment, name is Rolof of Riverwood. Stormcloak. Never seen yah before? We need to get to Riverwood. Its nearbye but we need to find a way to get there. And we need gear." He glances at them, and then stands moving towards the closed door.

I agree we should get clear of this mess for now and worry about gear later"

The terror of the courtyard was intense as the dragon began breathing flames around and Emlai felt terror that she wouldn't survive when the door was found locked.  Fortunately there was another entrance and she felt a bit of relief at getting undercover causing her to breathe a sigh of relief when they reached the relative safety of the keep's interrior.  She listened to what Rolof said and, while she wanted to simply go home and forget all this madness she knew she couldn't.  He would surely be waiting for her to do just that.

Emelia's gaze shifted between the various people as they spoke and she said, "You are assuming they don't think we died in the dragon attack.  If the whole place is wiped out they won't know we are alive and need to be looked for."<Lavender>

Emelia's gaze turned towards the door as she said, <Lavender>"I am as ready as I can be and,"
she spoke a few words and gestured calling up a quartet of bobbing lights, "fortunately I don't need a weapon."  She gestured again and the lights faded away.

Emelia Jerod rolled 6 using 1d20.  Perception.

The young Nord stood trying to catch his breath, and cradled the weapon he had picked up in both hands at about the level of his stomach. It was an ungainly thing, a weapon used for butchery rather than warfare, with the balance concentrated in the head to an obscene degree, but it would do the job if it came down to it.

"Let's hope" he agreed with the female when she mentioned they might assume them all dead. He looked ready to proceed when the others were.
