The modern history of Chaos Earth
2012-2024
The wars rage.  No one really knows what one event sparked hostilities, but hostilities were sparked…in a huge way.  Many scholars feel the main incidents were the occupation of Taiwan by Chinese forces who really wanted to see how far the US would go when faced with a “real dilemma” and the Indian/Pakistani war which began as a border skirmish as these long time foes engage in a bitter war of attrition.  The conflicts soon spread engulfing every continent and nearly every country.  In a strange turn of events, peace was never found.  No quarter was given, and none was asked for.  The lines had been drawn and this was going to be the battle of the ages.  Lucky for us dear reader, the hands of reason did stay madness and no nuclear weapons were ever thrown by any side.

21 December 2024
The day is known as Wars End.  Like so many wars before, this one was decided by a new super-weapon.  Reportedly designed by the US and its allies, it was called “War Hammer” and it brought death from the sky.  Pin-point accurate and powerful enough to incinerate a tank in a single blast, it would reportedly focus the power of the sun onto its targets, utterly destroying them.  It brought an abrupt halt to hostilities as it was used repeatedly on everyone until they quit fighting.  Of all people, the Pope presided over the peace negotiations at the behest of the US Government.   The death toll is nearly 7 billion.

2025
A war-weary world looks around and takes stock of what has happened.  12 years of constant war have taken its toll. No continent was untouched.  Billions of people were killed, and the world economy was devastated.  Nations tried to move on through the aftermath but it was hard.  No apologies were ever offered, no “thanks” for any help given.  Allies tried to help each other as best they could but everyone was wary of the great white light in the sky.  How would the world recover?  How would things ever be the same?  Invention…one of the better by-products of war would be the answer.

2026
In a lab in Ontario Canada, two researchers made a breakthrough in medical science, the creation of nanites!  Nano-technology has come of age!  They were successfully able to meld machine and flesh!  The first cybernetics had been created and though they were clunky, they were perfect for those who had lost limbs or other body parts during the long war.  They then did something unheard of.  They shared their technology with the world free of charge!
Advances in computer science also took a leap forward at this time easily tripling the previous best in speed and memory capability.

2027-2030
At the CDC in Atlanta, US scientists discover the cure for AIDS and Cancer.  In a gesture of good faith, they send hundreds of doctors to Africa and other third-world nations at no cost to treat their people.  They also share this info with the world, which leads scientists in Europe and Asia to come up with more cures that are shared worldwide.  99% of all known diseases are wiped out.
The Russian Military leadership steps down to what they call “The true Czar of Russia” and give up trying to reunite the old Soviet Union.  Oil is discovered in Siberia…lots of it.  Russia becomes the “Russian Empire” once again.

2030-2035
     The US Military, using molecular bonding techniques on research done during the 15-year war, discovers what it calls “High Tensile Alloy”. It’s a breakthrough in building techniques.  Conventional weapons are practically useless on it.  At this time, it is able to be used only on the large scale such as buildings, tanks, and naval vessels.  Man-sized units are tested.  It is adapted to conventional construction techniques but proves to be too expensive to use large scale.  Given to their allies, this technology eventually finds itself around the world.

A working “Laser Scalpel” is developed by researchers at Oxford in the UK.  This revolutionizes the field of medicine.  It is quickly adapted to military applications worldwide and weapons made from it prove a successful counter to the hardened metal.  The first standard laser weaponry is introduced, comparable in power to most standard side-arms and rifles.

A moon base is founded by the US, EU, and Japan.
The US, Canada, and Mexico form the “North American Alliance”.  The nations merge their economies and form a military/police branch with authority in all three “nations”.  Its name is “NEMA”…the Northern Eagle Military Alliance.  By 2098 they would completely replace the FB, CIA, Homeland Security, and Militaries of all three nations.  This becomes a prototype copied the world over.  The EU, South American Collective, and African Alliance are soon formed.

The UN, finally able to be called a “World governing body” is able to quell dissidents in Africa, South America, and South East Asia bringing those countries to the modern world.  Violence is nearly ended except in a few places.  Education systems are put in place, and police are effective.  Poverty world wide becomes a thing of the past as jobs are found for almost everyone.  The war was terrible, and work was to be had everywhere.  Nearly all nations are now on equal educational footing if not economic.  Free schooling is introduced everywhere and children are required to go.  Food and medical supplies are given free of charge.  No one any longer needs to “afford” standard medical care or food.  It’s the right of everyone.  All nations pitch in.

2035-2040.
Medical advances continue to astound as research into genetics, cloning and genetic mutation continue.  This leads to the breakthrough of Bionics.  Synthetic organs are created and cloned using a host's DNA.  Every body part except bone and limbs could be cloned with a 0% chance of rejection.  People born with bad hearts could have them replaced with hearts made from their own genetic material, without their defects.  Car crash victims no longer need to wait for a donor, they only had to survive a matter of days.  It was a viable alternative to Cybernetics which replaces flesh with the machine though understandably more expensive.  For exorbitant fees, it is possible to make these parts “better” than the original, comparable to their cybernetic counterparts though this is outlawed in the North American Alliance.
Genetic “tweaking” begins with parents who can afford to have the child they want. Blue eyes, faster runner, blond hair…all could be had for the right price!
Birth Defects are a thing of the past.  All defects are detected and corrected before the first trimester of pregnancy is complete.  Infant mortality drops worldwide to 1%
The Human Condition has never been better.  With modern medicine and a healthy diet, the elderly seem to regress in years!  Medical tests indicate that with Nanotechnology combined with new medicines, the elderly aren’t getting younger; they’re just “feeling their age”!

The oldest person on earth at the time, 110 years old, regresses in age to approximately what would be found in a healthy 55-year-old!  What this can mean is unbelievable.
Younger people do not seem to be as affected, though long-term tests are begun.
The first manned exploration of MARS!  A single one-way trip takes a little over 4 years.

2050
The world adopts a single currency, the “Credit”, which at the time, 1 credit equaled 1 US dollar/1 Euro.  The price is stabilized worldwide and the economy surges.
Magnetics is perfected for use on bullet trains.  Rail guns are first introduced on ships and tanks.
Bullet trains criss-cross the world though air travel is still used for travel for intercontinental travel.


World clean-up is started.  Revolutionary technologies that allow for 100% recycling finally allow pollution to be cleaned up and eradicated.  It will take decades, but it starts here.
Faiths worldwide begin losing membership.  Declining belief for years has put all major religions in a serious bind both economically and in popularity.  In an unparalleled and unheard-of act, the Pope, trying to drum up support for the Catholic Church, publicly and officially recognizes and sanctions all Christian religions and pardons them for any acts previously made against the Holy Roman Church.  The Pope, vying for support, quite literally bends over backward to accommodate the wayward Christian faiths so that they again, return to their roots.  Amazingly enough, it works!  For the first time in centuries, the Holy Catholic Church is truly whole again.  For some reason, others faiths feel threatened by this.  The Muslims declare war and attack Christian Holy sites. Limited conflict ensues with religious para-military forces forming in nations all around the world that the governments have trouble containing.

2060-2070
A colony was established on mars!

The Holy War Ends for no apparent reason as the world faiths declare peace and understanding.

Fusion Energy has been researched and fully tested and plans to be implemented when the current nuclear Reactors of the world are to be replaced in 2110.  Finally, nuclear power is without waste!

Solar power comes of age!  Yet another step in the search for “clean” power.  Rooftop solar panels can produce enough energy to power a single home for a year.

Testing is completed on a new space drive, an “impulse” engine.  It turns the current 4-year trip to mars into a 3-month trip.

Russia, China, The South American Collective, and the African Alliance all establish orbital space stations.

2065
The “Lone Star” military complex completes construction in 2065 near Dallas by the US Military and is a one-of-a-kind facility.  It becomes the model of which all future based will be designed.

Genetic research continues.  The first Mutant Dogs, cats, and birds are created.  Worldwide criticism is harsh and unyielding.  The dogs however are the first to point out that they love their “Human masters” and would die for them.  The debate begins on whether these creations are “Alive” or simply lab experiments.  Until they start breeding other mutant dogs which share their characteristics.  It seems a new species has been created! Still, the debate rages.

South American researchers, delving into matters of the mind to continue the “Bionic” research discovered they could stimulate strength, reflexes, and the rest of the physical body with “brain implants”.  It’s hailed as a medical breakthrough until some subjects go “Crazy”.  It is quickly outlawed in the North American Alliance but elsewhere research continues unabated.

Germany and the US explore “Chemical Augmentation”.  The first “Juicers" are created though the project is shelved in the US when 95% of all subjects don’t live past an average of 5 years.  Research continues in Europe and South America.


2068

Military contractors build the first working set of Power Armor.  Man-sized robot suits that utilize a human pilot. Initially developed for work on Mars and the moon, these fully environmentally sealed units are quickly adapted to military uses.  They are hideously expensive and the nations that developed them refuse to give out details on their construction.

The United States, using the power armor as a base platform, creates the USA-G10, a laser-resistant version of an armored space suit, 10 feet tall, armed with a huge cannon, and coated with a chrome finish.  Though their allies and others request access to them, the US refuses to share the technology with anyone except Canada who helped develop it.  It’s a breakthrough in molecular bonding techniques that makes the armor nearly invulnerable to laser attacks, thus dubbed the "Chromium Guardsman". On its shoulder resides a remarkable weapon.  Using rail gun and mass driver technology developed over 20 years, the US military engineered the RG-14 Rapid Acceleration Electromagnetic Rail Gun, adapted from larger ship and tank use.
Strangely enough, the Auto-industry remained unchanged for the most part as designs and innovations stagnated.  Cars, as they were in 2010, are essentially the same as they are now.  The only differences are cleaner running and more efficient engines.  Organic fuel has largely replaced oil-based petroleum in all but racing and construction vehicles.

Hover vehicles are introduced by the world’s automakers.  Enormously expensive, they represent the future.  The days of the ground-based wheeled auto it would seem, are numbered.

2070-2080.
The first “High Yield” laser weaponry is developed to counter the new rise in “High Tensil alloy”.  A single pistol becomes strong enough to level an entire city.  Starting with pistols and rifles, this technology runs rampant across the world and begins finding it’s way into criminals' hands as well as being upgraded for ships, tanks, jet fighters, and other military-grade hardware.  This equipment is highly regulated worldwide.
Then, just as soon as it started, it ended.

No one is sure how or why, but a new “cold war” infused the world.  Many point to South America where rival factions have been attacking each other with “Crazies and Juicers” for the past 10 years.  One nation was attacked that hadn’t developed this tech and was almost wiped out had it not been for UN intervention.  Suddenly, the world was forced to look upon what had been created, who had it, and who did not.  Almost overnight, the world went from bright and happy, to very cold and scary.

In 2079, rumors leak out of a new covert project dubbed “Silver Eagle” which is cloaked under great secrecy, much like the stealth fighters of old.  Tanks and other military hardware are to be outfitted using the new “hardened” alloy starting in 2080.

In early 2080, Artificial Intelligence is perfected!  The A.R.C.H.I.E series of artificial intelligence is completed!  Four working models are constructed.  Two are placed publicly, A.R.C.H.I.E. 1 is placed in NORAD, and A.R.C.H.I.E. 4 is placed on the moon colony.    The other two are called utter failures and destroyed.

2080-present (2095)
The first results of the medical study of 2040 are released.  Humans now seem to age normally until they are approximately 20 years old, but then the aging process slows dramatically.  They now age only one year for every two!  The 40-year-olds that were originally tested in 2040 now come back to have aged and appear to be only 60.  The human life span seems to have effectively been doubled

Hover vehicles finally come into their own though they are still expensive.  Highways all over the world have been replaced by newer, stronger, longer lasting, materials and though the air of a cold war of militarization and the refusal of even once friendly nations to share secrets permeates the world, life on earth has never been better.  Gasoline, while still used as diesel in some applications, is virtually non-existent.  Most industrial pollutants have been removed from use or neutralized, diseases cured, and hunger in all but the most remote of places has been eradicated.  All in all, life has never been better.  People still go to the grocery store for food.  Neighbors still have backyard BBQ’s, Football is still KING of American Television.

But underneath it all…people still worry about ghosts they cannot see, whispers they can barely hear, and even now, the threat of war or worse, permeates the air.

Industrial Espionage, spying, terror attacks, and nations jockeying for global domination once again dominate the global political landscape.
The creation of Mutant Animals is forbidden by the UN council.  All current specimens are not to be killed, but they are not to be allowed to breed either.

In 2094, the USS Ticonderoga, a Super Carrier is launched by the US Navy.  Six times the size of the current largest Air Craft Carrier in the world and capable of submerging, it was armed with modern weapon technology refined from the “War Hammer” project.  In addition to the 25000 personnel crew, it was loaded with more than one hundred of the Navy’s new “Super Tomcats", the modern F-14 fighter, a full division of Marine Power Armor and a battalion of US Marines. Escorted by 2 standard carriers and their battle fleets, this is the latest example of US Military Might and it will lead the US fleet into the 22nd century.
