(IC) Shipwrecked

Observing the six strange creatures, Argus looks around him to see if he could spot any more of them and didn't see any. He turns to Lenore, "Have you ever seen creatures like these before? They don't look dangerous at all, but if there's a lot more of them they could be troublesome."

"No I have not.. let's just carry on with our work. They should get bored and move on. If they start digging getting too close I'll see if I can make a shrill whistle too shoo em away." Lenore said, turning around in her fingers a signal whistle she discovered earlier before handing Argus two of the three potions. "You can hold onto these two."

After taking inventory of what they had she was surprised to see a lot of preserved meat. "Huh.. so thats what the turtle was so distasteful of. Best dig into this while it's good." She said, taking a few good chunks and digging in with her teeth. Salty and stringy, but food was food. Moving barrels and bags and various odds and ends was hungry work. She then decided to fashion some of the meat into a fishing lure and decided to see if anything was biting in the waters off the beach, casting the line off far as she can.

(perception roll result)

..As she wandered closer to the side of the stream, she noticed at the very side of the river yet three more creatures they spotted earlier. "Huh.. there.. really are quite a few of them.." She then also noticed a round moss covered object underfoot, her eyes almost passing by over it entirely. That looked unusual. She used the solid end of the fishing pole near the handle to give it a few gentle prods and pokes to get a better feel for what this was.

Hearing Lenore mention there are still even more of the little creatures, Argus stops what he is doing and straps his shield to his left arm and grabs his spear again. He walks over to Lenore to provide backup in case she‘s in danger and to see how many more of the critters are about.

He sees movement but can’t make out what it was…

“How many more do you see?” He asks her as he moves in closer.

The turtle shell shifts and what appears as a clawed hand bats at the rod. It slowly sticks its head out and then its arms, its legs. Getting up to the shore its apparently-Yawgo. Its eyes stare at the human, and it sits down watching the odd antics of the ranger "Fishing you are. Lose the rod you will." But its eyes never stop staring at the human. Whatever he did must have aggrivated the tortle. It looks around and notices the meat barrel open and its hands tighten around its staff. It goes over to it and covers it "Leave it be you will. Smell it they can."

"Think there's like four.." She said with a hint of worry before startling as the thing she just poked came alive! Oh it was just the turtle from before. The creatures were attracted by the meat? ..Oh course it all made sense now. Without hesitation Lenore sealed up the meat barrel and kicked it to roll down the beach into the water. Maybe that would disinterest the critters.

As for what felt like the warning against fishing she.. decided maybe it was best to heed that based on what just happened so she dropped the rod.

Argus takes in everything he just witnessed. He can’t believe Lenore kicked away the salted meat, but at the same time saw the logic in it. That food is probably what’s attracting these critters. “We’ll find out soon enough  if that is what it is”, he thinks to himself.

They didn’t loose Yawgo. Who knows, maybe the strange humanoid-turtle could be useful.

”It’s good to see you again my friend.”, he says with a grin. “We all need each other’s help here on this island. I ask you to join us. I don’t know anything about your species but I’m willing to learn. What do you say?”

Nothing seems to be intrigued with the meat as Lenore tosses it out. Maybe with the fast pace? She pulls the line up as the tortle is revealed. Yawgo goes to take the meat from the line and tosses it into the river. It looks over at the fighter, tilting its head "Friend no. Earn it you must. Tortle I am. Shell I got." Well least it opened up. Sort of. The dinosaurs near the group scatter and seem to dissapear into the foliage. Yawgo sits down, and looks around. Its eyes close for a moment then open up fully.

Relaxing a little, Argus squats down to be almost at eye level with Yawgo …

”I’ll take that as a Yes. Thank you Yawgo.”

Argus noticed all the critters ran off when Yawgo appeared. He stands up again and turns to Lenore with a surprised look, ”Did you notice that when Yawgo came out of the muck how the critters scattered away?” He turns his attention on Yawgo, ”Are they afraid of you?”

"Hrm.." Lenore murmured sourly with an expression to match when her line became useless without its bait. "So much for that.. and I don't know.. now that you mention it, seems a bit of coincidence."

Kriv coughes up some water turning over slightly before standing up. His vision is blurred and he can make shapes but not too much else as his head clears. He quickly thinks to himself, By the gods, what was that? He plants a hand on each of his belongings checking that they are still attached to his person. He looked for anyone still alive in the area trying to figure out as much as he could before stepping into the wooded area around him.

Surveying he is able to determine a number of bodies have washed up on the shore. He called out to anyone alive in the area, "Hello?", he asked trying to determine if people where close around him.

Kriv sees the creature and moves slowly towards it without saying much. He tilts his head similar to the way the creature tilts it's head.

"Hail. Creature, I am Kriv. You seem of the more friendly type. Were you on the ship that just was attacked? Do you know what happened or where we are?"

Kriv looks around uneasy waiting for this creature to talk before making hasty decisions about it.

Argus, hearing another voice and following in the direction that Yawgo is looking, he see's the Dragonborn. His eyes widen as he grips his spear a little tighter but not threatening. Argus hasn't seen a Dragonborn since he was a child (which in all fairness wasn't that long ago). "Hello stranger. It's good to see yet more survivors."

OOC: Kriv see's a human donned in chainmail. He's holding a large shield strapped to his left arm and a spear in his right. Longsword and handaxe on his hips. He wears a corinthian style helm with an alternating red and white crest and has a brooch that holds up his dark red cloak that looks like a symbol of rank.

Lenore let Argus do the talking, not being much for building rapport.. but she did look heartened that another survivor has been found. With a bit of luck maybe they would find most of them by the end of the week.

In reply to Kriv Yarjerit (msg # 60):

”We have no idea what hit us or that anything in the sea can wield such destructive power, but here we are.”

Argus introduces Lenore and Yawgo, ”This is Lenore and and Yawgo. My name is Argus Alanai. Why don’t you join us Kriv?”

Kriv shrugs to Argus, "I see why not. Grouping in numbers is far better than finding myself in the middle of no where with no one. That creature has a name?".

Kriv is still struggling to understand what Yawgo is, he turns to the turtle creature. "Where do you hail from turtle thing? What manner of creature are you?"

Nothing creeps out as the dragonborn looks at the odd group. Yawgo looks up at Kriv, tilting its head. It takes its staff and stabs it into the dirt "Yawgo I am. Tortrle I be. Here I live, dwell I do not. Name I do, insult you did." The tortle stares again at the dragonborn. What is it with people insulting him? First Argus now Kriv. And Argus already stated its name. It sighs, looking at the ground and it sits down.

Argus chuckles with a smile at the 'cultured' comment, "I guess you can call yourselves that. It's good that we are all alive. Whoever wants to help me set camp, let's get to it." He says in his military manner.

With that, Argus turns and walks over to the half made camp, starting with looking over the supplies.

Lenore headed to over to make herself useful and get to helping with setting up the camp. She appreciated the straight to the point military style of direction. With a wince she felt the unpleasant reminder of losing her boots in the shipwreck as the warm sand beneath her feet was replaced with gnarled roots and branches.. she never realized how starkly different a slight change in nature could feel, something lost on her from many years of city life.

Kriv looks around for any sorts of food that he could find in the area but comes up pretty empty. He looks at the others before informing them, "Look bare here. We might need to keep moving to find suitable game and food. That is unless the plan is to stay here until we think someone will rescue us which is highly unlikely."

As he's working on the camp, Argus tells Kriv, "The plan is to set up a basecamp from which to operate from until we can re-establish somewhere else. From here we will do sorties into the island, to hunt, fish, and get a lay of the land. Also, if at anytime we get separated, this is our current rendezvous point."

He continues, "I am eager to find high ground to get a good look at the size of this island and its features, but that will come in time."

"Child you are, ordering us about is not. Wise it is, asking others you should do. Dangerous you ask. Plan you have, asked others you did not.  Insulted I am, care you do not. Killed you will be. Aid you I won't." The tortle slowly gets up. Really slowly. It looks at the human, lowers its head and taps the ground. It tilts its head slightly and rubs the chin "Live here I do. Passes it does, time yes." Oddly Yawgo seems calm. Doesn't raise its voice, but seems serious. It glances towards Lenore and Kriv looking up at them then up at the foliage above.
