To Infinity... and Beyond: Aurland, Irene

Of the many problems facing the Elucidate, the disappearance of two if its navigators may have been seen as a lesser concern in the face of survivial, but when you were presented with a time sensitive lead on the matter, some threads simply had to be pulled. On this Aurland and Irene were in agreement. So it was that Aurland, the mage still badly burned and in no shape to be traveling, and the woman who looked like she may very well already be dead and just not aware of it yet, decided to set out. Never before had there been a duo who looked less suited to traveling.

Still, an hour later they had gathered themselves and supplies and Aurland took point as they returned to the Receiving Hall on the main floor, then they struck out. It would be noted several hours later that this made the duo the first two members of the expedition to ever set foot on this unexplored land, but the weight of that realization would be overlooked during those dire first few hours. They were instead focused on Aurland's tenuous thread of arcane energy. Cocking his head the conjurer got a sense of the energies tug, then turned them to follow it. Disappointingly for Irene, it was opposite the direction of the smoke.

Setting out, it was a slow hike. Surprisingly, Aurland moved quicker of the two, even in his badly injured state. Irene needed frequent breaks to catch her breath or rest her feet. It made for slow going. What helped to distract from the gradual pace was the fascination to examine the surroundings.

Before setting out, they had been told this formless plane would be almost like living clay, responding to their will much like arcane matter did. However, they were scrambling over hard rocky outcroppings, very much not flat malleable clay. Climbing over a few of these rocks, with great effort on Irene's behalf, they found a gulley that dipped down into a winding path. That was when they first lost sight of the Elucidate. They were well and truly on their own now.
