Mission Leadership:  The Mission Command Leadership consists of three persons representing the scientific, civilian and military organizations who organize, operate and fund the expedition.  In practice, Dr. Kaspersen is in charge of operations unless a specific situation calls for emergency action, in which case Maj. Castellano takes charge.  Ms. Mojgan is empowered to make that decision subject only to review after the fact should an Alliance Board of Inquiry be required.


Natsumi Mojgan, Alliance Directorate of Science and Technology, government representative (a bureaucrat)

  Mojgan is a bit of an enigma.  She rose through the ranks of the bureaucracy in the directorate despite not having a science or engineering degree.  Her record indicates a career in policy formulation, essentially in evaluating regulations for various scientific advancements and technological applications.  Ms. Mojgan does not argue or discuss in public with either Maj. Castellano or Dr. Kaspersen, though she is aleert and always paying attention.  On several occasions she ended a dispute with a single word or short admonistion.


Dr. Isi Nur Kaspersen, University Administrator

  Dr. Kaspersen is an administrator second and scientist first, in his own mind. He is an astrophysicist by training though his administrative duties have overtaken his research time, much to his dismay.  This makes him occasionally grumpy, though he is a man of unquestioned integrity and professionalism.  While not ever close to being reckless he has a different risk calculus when potential scientific breakthroughs are on the line, leading to the rare tense moment between him and Maj. Castellano.

Maj. Milosh Castellano, Alliance Star Force liaison

  Castellano is a major in the Star Force with a specialty in Liaison and Strategy.  The former means he is a gifted linguist and smooth diplomat; the latter indicates high intelligence and training in strategic planning, resource management and military campaign coordination.  He is friendly aboard ship and takes his duties quite seriously.

Operational Commanders:


Captain Volkan, ship's captain

  Cpt. Volkan is the commanding officer of the exploration ship.  He retired from the Star Force several years ago and the University enticed him back to work, desiring someone with long experience.  Volkan participated in several battles during his time in the Force, though there was no full scale war; border disputes and small-scale defense actions are depressingly common.   He has a friendly, almost jovial personality, but runs a tight ship. His crew is loyal, dedicated and efficient.

Dr. Danijela Keshia Spence, Chief scientist (Xenoarcheologist)

  Dr. Spence is another who seems young for her position, but the talk among the research assistants and ship's crew is that she may be the msartest person aboard.  A child prodigy who received her PhD at 21, Dr. Spence has a passion for ancient civilizations.  Her current personal mission, which comes up often in both staff meetings and planning sessions aboard ship, is discovering all there is to know about the Hyar civilization.

  A grease monkey who worked her way up the engine room of various freighters and other industrial-type civilian craft.  Cpt. Volkan recruited her for this mission and she is loyal to him.


Udgo,  Mercenary Chief Technician

This dralasite is the chief of mecha technics for the mercenary company. Udgo is diligent, talented, and steady. It is hard to know how old it is. Its morphing body is a big plus for climbing around the innards of a mecha.  ‘Udgo’ is a word made of the first 4 initials of his name, as translated into Standard.  His translated full name: “Unthinkable Dreamer Gifted with the Obsidian Stiletto and Who Oversees the Coliseum of Day.”
