Deleting deleted games.

Is there a way to permanently delete games that are 'deleted'?

I have deleted games as far back as 2018 still lurking on my lists and showing up under the player's wanted info.

Ideally I'd like to archive the threads and info and remove them entirely to 'wipe the slate clean' so to speak.

In reply to Starchaser (msg # 1):

I think the way to go here is rMail the mods when you are ready to have the games removed?  (Please, somebody with more experience, correct me if I'm wrong.)

In other words, back all your stuff up, do as much cleanup as you can, then ask for their help in purging these games from the database.

I tend to "recycle" games instead of deleting them - scrub everything squeaky clean, slap on a fresh coat of paint, and, voila, a new game that doesn't count against your current games tally.

Deleting deleted games.

The FAQs:
Are games ever deleted from the site?

Yes.  Games may be removed from the site under the following circumstances:
  • The Game Owner has violated site rules in order to create the game.

  • The game's content violates RPoL's site rules, and the GM has been unresponsive to site moderator warnings, or has previously been required to modify a game for the same problem.

  • The Game Owner has deleted the game, and the game has not been resurrected for at least two months.  (The actual time is generally longer than this, and usually depends upon how many posts the game has.)

  • The game has lapsed into inactivity, and has been inactive for a number of months equal to: 2 months × (1 + (#_of_posts / 100)) (but no greater than 1 year).  At this time, it is usually moved to the "Deleted" area, where it may still be resurrected by the Game Owner.  If it's there for at least one month (but usually considerably longer) and is not resurrected, it may be deleted from the site.

As should be apparent from the above, deleting a game simply flags it for deletion, and it will be removed later by a script run by a Moderator.

It's deliberately done this way because it means there are a lot less rMails asking us, "Hey!  Can you find this game that I deleted by accident?"

Note, also, that having games from last year still showing up in Wanted - Players info is actually a feature that was requested by site users who wanted to be able to check up on GMs before joining their games (so giving GMs a way to "wipe the slate clean" would be working against that).

Yeah, horus has the right idea with recycling games.  You can archive all the posts, which hides them from everyone's view, and you still have access to all the useful information in them.

You can also change their name to something generic like "Archived game" while you're thinking of what to do with them.

Thanks for the info. Didn't consider archiving. I may just undelete the lot and tag as not in use.

Keep in mind that RPoL does delete inactive games, and is not the place to 'store' information for convenience.

Please store information you want to keep in a place where you have control of the storage.

Thanks. I kinda suspected there was more to it than I knew or remembered (yeah, that's becoming a factor lately...)
