Niscyra

Ethnicity: Divergent/Sovereign

Niscyra doesn’t remember her mother. The only person she has known for as long as she can remember is Klalkapadia, the old herbalist who raised her and trained her. Klalkapadia doesn’t talk about her history much, but something happened a long time ago which saw her mostly ostracised by the clans; they two are thus 2 peas in a pod, both something of outsiders.
In Niscyra’s case the reason is obvious to those who deign to look at her, she is an Albino, a sign of disfavour and punishment inflicted on her mother and the clans by the gods. Maybe that is why Klalkapadia rescued and adopted the child, or perhaps it was that act that caused her to be ostracised. It is something Niscyra tries to avoid dwelling on and something Klalkapadia refuses to talk about or discuss. If Klalkapadia knows who Niscyra’s mother is she hasn't revealed either who it is or that she knows.

Niscyra's albinism and the photophobia that comes with it are both a curse and a blessing. Her need to keep her skin covered and wear dark glasses when out in bright sunlight are the curse, but her ability to see in low light and moonlight are the blessing.
Having to wear 3 layers of linen, simply because wearing linen is cooler any other option, when out on the plains, or the rocky outcrops, or sandy shore, or any other exposed location, when out harvesting the herbs that grow there, even in the late afternoon or early morning is uncomfortable, unless it is raining when a simple thin leather cloak is more than sufficient; the density of the leather being much better protetion. Of course at night when only lit by the moon she can be free, much more herself, much more the ghost.
There is also an upside in the dense interior of the forests or jungle where the sunlight barely reaches, her ability to see in such conditions more than makes up for any other inconvenience.
The same is true for when she is underwater, fishing, harvesting sponges, lobsters, crabs, or the herbs and seaweeds that grow below the tide line or in the ocean depths. She has over the years become very adept at solo free diving with a Skandalopetra(a 32lb granite hydrodynamic stone), staying submerged for many minutes (7 or 8 minutes at more than 30m), depending upon the depth she needs to dive to. She aspires to a caique, but such a wooden boat, even a small one is expensive, but in terms of getting somebody to build her one and also to then maintain it. Until that day comes she lives with her carabus, which at least is easily portable even if unstable.
