The future of the Star Kingdom is uncertain. The Kinghas died, leaving behind an heir unready to assume
the burdens of the Crown.
The cunning Baron of Brighthaven has taken advantage
of this momentary weakness, mustering a GRAND ARMADA
in order to wrest control of the kingdom for himself.
Meanwhile, knights from across the galaxy return to the Star
Kingdom to mourn their beloved King
Premise: There was once a peaceful star-kingdom, ruled by a line of just and wise monarchs. Though they were not the greatest power in the galaxy, they had strength enough to defend their own volume of space, the key to which was their unique tradition of the knight, a special class of starfighter pilot, rumoured to be empowered with talents and abilities both martial and mystical, bound by a rigid code of ethics.
That all changed with the death of the King. Whole star-nations have become embroiled in this succession crisis of galactic proportions as outside powers look on and plot the kingdoms demise.
The knights must determine what matters most to them: their own fortunes, their star-kingdom, or their code.
Notes: Knights of the Shattered Star is a space opera setting inspired by Star Wars and other works of the science fiction/science fantasy genre. My main aim was to have knights IN SPACE!, as Ive never really seen it done to my own satisfaction. Very rarely do you see the knight in shining armour in a space opera or science fantasy, though you should expect to see them in this game. :)
Its difficult to describe the themes in a tale so large, but some ideas Id like to explore are: the nature of kingship and what makes a good (or bad) leader; the relationship between king and subjects; fighting for someone you may not believe in; the interaction between divinity and mortality; prophecy and fate and how one meets their doom; and perhaps others as they strike me.
System: I am more interested in characters and story than in system mechanics. As such, while this game uses a home-brewed system, the fiction will often triumph over mechanics. I will always go the path that makes for a better story.
