Personality John is a little bit reserved and very quiet. Torn between his feelings he still can't help being flirty around guys he likes. After he'll usually compensate by taking a woman to bed. He also won't tolerate those breaking the law.
Background John comes from a family of law enforcement officers stretching back generations. Its also a very devout Christian family. As John hit puberty he also started noticing how attractive some of his male friends were. One day after football his coach made a play at him and John both loved it and hated it.  Soon he was in bed with a girl he didn't really care for but liked him. Throughout high school she was his beard . All the while him and the Coach were seeing each other. After he graduated John decided it was best to move saying it was because he wanted to make it on his own but in truth it was so he could explore his sexuality.

At the Academy he met a good friend and he was very attractive to her. Seeing this as right he began dating her though it was on the down lo as she was a tainer. After he graduated they moved in together and he learned she was transgender. It explained a lot. As time passed they became engaged and eventually married. It was short lived as after their honeymoon came the call. A bank robbery. As John arrived he saw his wife being shot. She was DOA. This lead to a pit of depression and heavy drinking. It was so bad he almost lost his job. Throughout it he was sleeping with both men and women. That's when her sister came in and shook him out of it. He sought help and soon was at his old self.

When he learned of the competition series he was intrigued. The money would help with the Fallen Officers memorial. Hopefully he'll be able to love again.
