Toby stands around six feet tall, has hazel eyes, a fair complexion and brown hair kept short but with fairly impressive sideburns. He is polite and civil in his mannerisms and always seems to be clean and neat.

On duty Toby wears an the officially proscribed marine uniform of scarlet jacket with a high black colour and cuffs, white birches and stokings an black shoes. When not on duty he dresses conservatively in a black frock coat, tan birches with white stockings and shirt, perhaps with a coloured silk cravat and/or cummerbund.

Background:
Whatever Toby wears seems to be well fitted and of superior quality, because of his family background in the tailoring business. Toby comes from Chatham, a Kentish town dominated by the Naval dockyards and his family for at least three generations had made their, not inconsiderably, fortune supplying, repairing and adjusting uniforms and mufti to the naval officers there. Toby might have followed his older brothers into the profession but became despondent after his wife died giving birth to a still born child. A friend who was an officer in the marines persuaded Toby to sign up for a commission and sponsored him through the process.
